A tragic incident occurred in Niger State as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Shafi’u Bawa, reportedly took his own life. The unfortunate event happened on Saturday, February 8, 2025, leaving the community in shock.
Officer Found Hanging in His Room
Bawa’s lifeless body was discovered by his father, who entered his room and found him hanging from the ceiling. Authorities were alerted immediately, and the police swiftly transported his remains to the nearest general hospital in Kontagora Local Government Area, where he was officially pronounced dead.
Police Statement on the Incident
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the incident, but the reason behind the officer’s actions remains unknown. In a statement issued by Superintendent of Police Wasiu Abiodun, the command acknowledged the distressing occurrence and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to uncover the motive.
“On February 8, 2025, at approximately 2 PM, it was reported that ASP Shafi’u Bawa of 61 PMF Kontagora was found dead, having allegedly taken his own life by hanging. The circumstances surrounding his action are yet to be determined. The body was retrieved and later handed over to the family for burial,” said the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
Burial and Religious Rites
