The Adamawa State Police Command has made a crucial breakthrough in the investigation of the tragic murder of a 35-year-old POS operator, Abbas Yuguda, in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred on March 22, 2025, unfolded as the victim was returning home after closing his business for the day.
Brutal Attack on POS Operator
According to police reports, a group of armed assailants ambushed Abbas Yuguda, inflicting severe head injuries before fleeing the scene, leaving him in a pool of blood.
Confirming the attack, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer, revealed that upon receiving a distress call, officers from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Headquarters quickly arrived at the crime scene. They immediately transported the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa, where he was pronounced dead during treatment.
Suspect Arrested Amid Rising Tensions
In the wake of the brutal killing, angered youths in the area mobilized and tracked down one of the suspected assailants, identified as Umar SNU. Before police intervention, he was subjected to mob action but was later rescued and rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention. The suspect is now cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
Commissioner of Police Condemns Killing, Warns Against Jungle Justice
Reacting to the tragic event, Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris, PSC (+), strongly condemned the senseless killing and assured the public of a thorough investigation to ensure all perpetrators face justice.
Furthermore, he cautioned against jungle justice, urging the public to report criminal activities to law enforcement agencies rather than taking matters into their own hands.
Police Urge Residents to Remain Vigilant
The Adamawa State Police Command has issued a statement urging residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. Authorities emphasize the importance of community cooperation in preventing further violence and ensuring security in the region.
