Petrol Prices May Rise to N1,200 – Primate Ayodele Warns

2 minutes, 32 seconds Read

Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has issued a stark warning to Nigerians and President Bola Tinubu’s administration regarding the worsening economic situation in the country. Speaking on Friday, Primate Ayodele cautioned that petrol prices, which recently dropped to N945 per litre, could surge to N1,200 per litre if pressing economic issues are not addressed promptly.

The Warning In a statement released by his media aide, Oluwatosin Osho, Primate Ayodele highlighted the looming challenges facing the nation, predicting further increases in the cost of essential commodities. He urged the government to implement long-term solutions to alleviate the hardship that Nigerians are currently enduring.

Commodities Becoming Unaffordable The cleric painted a grim picture of the future, stating that key staples and even spiritual items may soon be out of reach for the average citizen:

  • Petrol Prices: Could rise to N1,200 per litre.
  • Local Rice: Expected to sell for N100,000 per bag.
  • Imported Rice: Likely to reach N140,000 per bag.
  • Other Food Commodities: Prices of yam, beans, and vegetable oil are set to climb higher.
  • Spiritual Items: Even anointing oil may become too expensive for Christians.

Primate Ayodele attributed these projections to the government’s failure to take necessary steps, including reopening the country’s borders and investing in agricultural development.

Criticism of Government Actions The prophet did not hold back in his critique of President Tinubu’s administration, particularly condemning the rice palliative program. According to Primate Ayodele, distributing rice through political channels does not address the root causes of poverty but instead fuels corruption.

“The rice palliative is only encouraging corruption; it is not alleviating any hardship. Hardship isn’t from heaven but from the actions of those in power. Without urgent intervention, I foresee hardship worsening across all sectors,” he stated.

Urgent Recommendations To combat the looming economic challenges, Primate Ayodele proposed the following measures:

  1. Officially Reopen Borders: This move would ease the strain on the economy and lower the cost of imported goods.
  2. Promote Agricultural Development: Increased investment in agriculture can boost local food production and reduce dependency on imports.
  3. Establish Anti-Hardship Committees: He called for the formation of dedicated committees to address economic difficulties across multiple sectors.

Call to Action Primate Ayodele warned that failure to act swiftly could result in dire consequences, including mass unrest. “If the government isn’t careful, people will start stoning them. This hardship is man-made, and only proactive measures can resolve it,” he warned.

Conclusion The Nigerian government has been urged to take decisive action to avert a deeper economic crisis. As Primate Ayodele’s warnings resonate with the public, it remains to be seen whether President Tinubu’s administration will rise to the occasion and implement meaningful changes.
