Osun Police Caution Against Attempts to Disrupt Local Council Work Resumption

The Osun State Police Command has issued a firm warning to individuals allegedly planning to interfere with the smooth return of local government workers to their official duties across the state.

This alert was made public through a service announcement released by the Command after receiving reliable intelligence indicating possible attempts to cause disorder at council offices. The notice was approved by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, and communicated by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Giwa-Alade Emmanuel.

According to the statement, the alleged plan is believed to be aimed at various council secretariats located in all 30 local government areas of Osun State. The intelligence report also mentioned Ife East Area Office, Modakeke, and several local council development areas as potential targets.

CP Ibrahim Gotan stressed that only officially recognized local government staff should be present within council premises during the resumption period. He warned that individuals who are not legitimate employees of the local government system must avoid loitering or gathering around secretariats.

The police boss further disclosed that security personnel across the state have been instructed to respond firmly to any attempt to instigate unrest or interrupt lawful activities within council offices. He made it clear that any action capable of disturbing public peace would be handled decisively.

According to him, the Command would not tolerate activities capable of threatening the stability and calm currently enjoyed in Osun State. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies remain committed to preventing any group or individual from undermining public order.

CP Gotan also reassured residents that the Police Command remains fully dedicated to safeguarding lives and property. He noted that officers would continue to perform their constitutional responsibilities with heightened alertness, professionalism, and discipline.

Members of the public were encouraged to remain peaceful, obey the law, and stay watchful. The Commissioner urged residents to support security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious movement or activity noticed around council facilities.

Meanwhile, the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) had earlier announced that its members across Osun State would resume work on Monday, January 5, 2026, following an industrial action that lasted nearly eleven months.

The prolonged strike began in February 2025 after violent confrontations erupted between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over control of local government secretariats within the state.

Those clashes resulted in multiple casualties on both sides. Among the notable victims was Remi Abass, a prominent APC figure from Ikire in Irewole Local Government Area. The unrest significantly disrupted council operations and prompted the extended withdrawal of local government workers.

With the planned resumption of duties, security agencies have intensified measures to ensure that the process proceeds without violence or intimidation, allowing normal administrative activities to return across Osun State.
