Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed strong optimism that both divine intervention and popular support from the people will guarantee his return to office in the 2026 governorship election.

The governor made this statement on Monday during a New Year interfaith prayer gathering held at the State Secretariat. The event attracted a wide range of participants, including labour leaders, religious authorities, and public servants from across the state.

Governor Adeleke stated that his administration has successfully navigated several challenges since assuming office three years ago and remains confident of overcoming any obstacles that may arise ahead of the forthcoming election.

According to him, the journey of his government has been driven by faith, endurance, and unwavering belief in God’s guidance. He emphasized that divine backing has remained central to the survival and progress of his administration.

“Our God has consistently been our source of strength, our shield, and our defender. From the onset of this administration, He has taken charge of our battles. Anyone who stands against us is confronted by a force greater than human power,” Adeleke stated.

The governor described his leadership as a clear demonstration of divine grace, explaining that his administration has triumphed over difficulties that initially appeared overwhelming and impossible to resolve.

He further stressed that the experiences of his government reflect the reality that spiritual authority plays a vital role in leadership and governance.

“We stand as evidence that God governs human affairs. Repeatedly, we have faced trials and emerged victorious. Since God remains unchanged yesterday, today, and forever, we are confident that we will continue to succeed and remain unconquered,” he declared.

Governor Adeleke also took the opportunity to outline the performance of his administration since assuming office. He noted that his government has focused on policies designed to directly benefit residents and improve living conditions across the state.

He explained that from the first day of his tenure, his administration placed priority on initiatives that positively affect the daily lives of Osun people, adding that the government has remained faithful to its commitments.

“From day one, our focus has been on programmes that touch the lives of ordinary citizens. After three years, we can confidently say that we have fulfilled our promises and maintained trust with the people of Osun,” he said.

Among the key achievements mentioned were social interventions for senior citizens, assistance for the poor and vulnerable, rehabilitation and construction of roads and bridges, empowerment schemes for artisans, and targeted efforts to improve education and healthcare services across the state.

The governor also addressed concerns regarding outstanding salary and pension obligations inherited from previous administrations. He noted that despite doubts and criticism from political opponents, his government has made steady progress in resolving these issues.

“Even under extremely challenging conditions, we are tackling half-salary payments and pension arrears that some believed could never be resolved. We have ensured that Osun resources are used for the benefit of Osun people while creating a more favourable environment for investors,” Adeleke stated.

Earlier at the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, reaffirmed organised labour’s support for the governor’s second-term bid. He announced that workers across the state would collectively cast their votes in support of Governor Adeleke during the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

Religious leaders present at the gathering also offered prayers and goodwill messages in support of the administration.

The Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasaun, alongside the Osun State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr John Adeleke, praised the governor for openly expressing his faith in public affairs. They prayed for continued divine wisdom to enable the government to address the state’s challenges and ensure a smooth path toward re-election.
