Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised the political temperature ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election, saying he would seek the attention of United States President Donald Trump if he believes the electoral process is compromised.
Davido made the remark during a live online session with comedian Carter Efe, as political parties and their supporters intensify activities ahead of the closely watched governorship poll.
The singer’s intervention has attracted attention partly because of his family connection to the election. Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term, is Davido’s uncle.
Davido: Election credibility must come first
During the live session, Davido stressed the need for the Osun election to be conducted freely and fairly.
He said he would not remain silent if he believed something went wrong with the process and declared that he would involve Trump and draw international attention to the situation.
The statement was made in the context of election credibility rather than as a formal complaint to any electoral or government authority. There is also no indication from the available reports that Trump has been contacted over the Osun election.
Davido has previously used his public platform to support his uncle’s political ambitions, making his latest comments part of a broader pattern of his involvement in the Osun political conversation.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who has been in office since 2022, is seeking another term. The Osun State Government identifies him as the incumbent governor and records his victory in the 2022 governorship election.

The more immediate test, however, will be whether Osun delivers a credible election whose outcome can withstand scrutiny from voters, political parties, observers and the wider Nigerian public.
