In a landmark move to enhance soldiers’ welfare, the Nigerian Army has officially launched the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) project in Idu, Abuja. This initiative, consisting of 100 blocks of 4 flats, will house 400 families, with 5% of the units reserved for soldiers injured in action (WIA). This gesture fulfills a pledge made by the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
Lieutenant Augustina Nkeonye, the Acting Public Relations Officer of Post-Service Housing Development Limited, shared the details in a statement. During the ceremony, 20 wounded-in-action soldiers were honored as house keys were symbolically presented to them, highlighting the Army’s dedication to their welfare.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, attended the event as the Special Guest of Honour. He commended the current COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for advancing this initiative and completing the vision of his late predecessor. General Musa expressed pride in the project’s success and its lasting impact on the well-being of Army personnel and their families.
Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, in his remarks, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to its personnel’s welfare. He stressed the importance of such housing schemes in addressing the needs of soldiers and their loved ones.
Major General Joseph Omali, the Managing Director/CEO of the Post-Service Housing Development Limited, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the project symbolizes dignity and support for Nigerian Army personnel both during their service and after retirement.
The event featured cultural displays, the ceremonial handover of house keys, and a group photograph to honor the beneficiaries and celebrate their resilience and sacrifices.
