Sowore Slams Labour Party Lawmakers Over Mass Defections to APC

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has strongly criticized lawmakers from the Labour Party (LP) for defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In his recent remarks, Sowore condemned the alignment of LP lawmakers in both the Senate and House of Representatives with the ruling APC, asserting that their actions prove they were never truly committed to the Labour Party’s ideology. According to LMSINT MEDIA, several Labour Party members have switched allegiance either to the APC or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This wave of defection, Sowore insists, exposes the insincerity of those lawmakers. Among those who have defected are: Speaking on Channels Television, Sowore remarked: “Look at all the Labour Party people in the National Assembly — they’re not decamping back to where they came from. They’re decamping to the APC. That’s the point; these guys are not real. They weren’t real in 2023, and they won’t be in 2027.” The defection list also includes: Sowore reiterated his stance that these defectors were not genuine representatives of the people under the Labour Party and accused them of opportunism by aligning with the dominant ruling party. Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Catholics in Anambra and across the globe following the successful election of a new leader of the Roman Catholic Church. On Thursday, the Vatican officially confirmed the election of Robert Cardinal Prevost, who has taken the name Pope Leo XIV. The announcement has sparked widespread celebration, especially in Anambra, which hosts one of the largest Catholic populations in Nigeria. Notably, the state is home to two cardinals, one of whom was among the electors in the recent papal conclave. In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo expressed profound joy over the development. He noted that the emergence of Pope Leo XIV symbolizes the global and inclusive nature of the Catholic Church. “He is the first American Pope, with strong French and Italian heritage, and meaningful ties to the Peruvian Catholic community,” Soludo stated. The governor highlighted Pope Leo XIV’s significant missionary and pastoral contributions in Peru, where he served as a parish priest, seminary rector, and educator in Canon Law. These roles, according to Soludo, underscore the Pope’s deep spirituality and unwavering service to God and humanity. Governor Soludo further praised the new Pope’s exceptional academic background, which includes degrees in Mathematics and Canon Law, as well as his leadership within the Order of St. Augustine. These qualities, Soludo said, prepare him effectively for the responsibilities of the Petrine ministry. Extending his congratulations to Catholics in Anambra, Nigeria, and worldwide, the governor prayed that Pope Leo XIV would be guided by the Holy Spirit as he addresses the moral, spiritual, and geopolitical challenges of today’s world. Soludo also urged the Pope to prioritize interfaith dialogue, global peacebuilding, and the protection of human dignity. He emphasized that the Pope’s previous role as Provincial of the Augustinian Province of Chicago reflects both his administrative acumen and his sensitivity to the diverse realities of the global Catholic faithful. Insecurity in Nigeria: Minister Discloses Drone Types Deployed by Terrorist Groups

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has provided clarity on the types of drones utilized by terrorist elements operating within the country. During the seventh edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the National Press Centre in Abuja, Abubakar stated that terrorist groups such as Boko Haram and other bandits rely solely on basic civilian drones and do not possess advanced or military-grade aerial surveillance technology. In his words, the Defence Minister emphasized, “These are simply civilian drones. The perpetrators attach explosives to them, adapt them creatively, and drop them manually. They are not sophisticated drones with precision-guided systems.” He added that the drones observed so far are the same commercial-grade drones commonly used by media professionals, but adapted to carry small explosive payloads—approximately one or two kilograms. Abubakar explained that ongoing intelligence efforts—both local and international—are being intensified in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser. He stated, “We have significantly enhanced our surveillance operations and intelligence gathering. This has led to the arrest of several arms traffickers.” Furthermore, he assured Nigerians that authorities are actively tracking the sources of these drones and monitoring civilian drone usage across the country. Rhapsody of Realities May 6th 2025, KEEP A DIARY OF SOULS

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Here’s my concern: that you care for God’s flock with all the diligence of a shepherd… (1 Peter 5:2 MSG). In the previous study, we reviewed the importance of complete evangelism. When you lead someone to Christ, you should keep track of their journey in Christ. Two years later, for example, you should still remember them and keep praying for them. Consider keeping a diary of the people you lead to Christ, and you’ll be amazed at how long that list will become over time. As you lead people to Christ, encourage them to do the same. Tell them, “When you lead someone to Christ, let me know. You can send me their names and addresses. I’ll be praying for them.” As your list grows, take time to bow your knees before the Father and pray for everyone on your list. The Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, said in Galatians 4:19, “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.” Pray like this for those whose names are on your list. Be strategic with your intercession for them, that they be established in the faith, doing the will of the Father, active in the work of the ministry, and bringing glory to God always. Pray also for other new converts whom the Lord has added to the church, that they be established in the Word, firmly rooted and grounded in the faith, and that the Lord is perfecting His work in their lives for His glory. Pray for them to be more and more passionate, committed and fearless labourers of the end-time harvest, and that through them, more souls receive the Gospel gladly and are converted to the Kingdom. In John 17:12, Jesus said, “…those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost….” This should always be your testimony concerning all those you lead to Christ or those whom the Lord adds to your local assembly through your evangelical efforts. Remember that evangelism has to be a conscious effort. It must be a sincere and personal ministry; it’s not a one-time event. It is a continuous, deliberate effort to bring others into God’s Kingdom and follow them up until they’re nurtured and grounded in the Faith. PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in the ministry of reconciliation. I take personal responsibility for those I lead to Christ. I remain fervent in prayer for their growth and dedication to spiritual things. Thank you for the joy and fulfilment of seeing lives transformed for your glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. Trump Proposes $1,000 Incentive for Undocumented Migrants Who Voluntarily Leave the US

In a bold move by the US government, President Donald Trump announced a new initiative offering undocumented immigrants $1,000 and travel expenses if they voluntarily return to their countries of origin. Speaking to reporters at the White House on Monday, Trump disclosed that the administration intends to support undocumented migrants who choose to self-deport through financial assistance and free transportation. “We plan to provide each individual with a set amount of money and a comfortable flight back to their homeland,” Trump stated. “We will collaborate with them, and if they’re good people—the kind we want in our country—they might be eligible to return legally someday.” The President emphasized that the new approach will create an opportunity for eligible migrants to re-enter the United States legally in the future. DHS Secretary Highlights Benefits of Voluntary Return Plan Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem expanded on the program, emphasizing that self-deportation is the most secure, humane, and economical method for undocumented migrants to exit the country and avoid arrest. She noted that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will provide financial assistance through the CBP Home app, which was developed to facilitate self-deportation procedures. According to DHS, each participant will receive the $1,000 stipend after their return to their home country is confirmed via the app. “Self-deportation offers undocumented individuals a dignified route out of the United States while avoiding interactions with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),” the department explained. Cost-Saving Strategy for Immigration Enforcement The DHS also highlighted the significant cost-saving aspect of the initiative. Utilizing the CBP Home system and providing financial support could reduce deportation-related expenses by approximately 70%. Currently, the average cost for arresting, detaining, and removing an undocumented migrant is estimated at $17,121, according to DHS data. An undocumented individual from Honduras has already successfully used the self-deportation process and returned to their country. During the White House event, President Trump reiterated his campaign promise to enforce mass deportations and claimed there are around 21 million undocumented immigrants residing in the United States. INTERPOL Uncovers Dozens of Canadian Stolen Vehicles in Nigeria During West Africa Crackdown

A global police effort led by INTERPOL has revealed a major stolen vehicle operation across West Africa, with numerous stolen cars, including several traced back to Canada, found in Nigeria. The operation, named “Safe Wheels,” involved law enforcement agencies across 12 West African countries and resulted in the identification of approximately 150 stolen vehicles. Among these, more than 75 were seized, including several located in Lagos, Nigeria. According to an official INTERPOL statement, the discovery was made possible through its Stolen Motor Vehicle (SMV) database, which plays a critical role in the global fight against vehicle theft. Vehicles were traced primarily from Canada, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. In 2024 alone, the database flagged over 270,000 stolen vehicles worldwide, offering law enforcement agencies across INTERPOL’s 196 member nations the ability to verify suspicious vehicles. Over a two-week period, police forces across West Africa inspected 12,600 vehicles. Popular vehicle brands found stolen included Toyota, Peugeot, and Honda. Traffickers moved these vehicles by both land and sea routes, with Nigeria being a key hub for shipping. Authorities from countries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, and Togo took part in the large-scale inspection operation. In Lagos, officers from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) found six smuggled vehicles inside freight containers, four of which bore visible signs of forced entry. The vehicles, including Toyota and Lexus models, were verified by the SMV database as having been stolen in Canada earlier in 2024. Investigations into the shipment are ongoing and involve collaboration between the NCS and Canada’s INTERPOL National Central Bureau. David Caunter, INTERPOL’s Director of Organized and Emerging Crime, emphasized the importance of the SMV platform. He described it as a vital tool for tracking stolen vehicles and exposing the organized networks behind their smuggling. European Leaders’ Victory Day Visit to Ukraine Sparks Russian Discontent

Russia has sharply criticized the intentions of several European leaders to visit Ukraine during the observance of the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II. On Monday, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) expressed disapproval over the symbolic gesture by European officials, interpreting their presence at commemorative events in Ukraine as a deliberate alternative that is poorly conceived. In an official statement, the SVR also took issue with the European Union’s directive advising its member nations and accession candidates to avoid attending the Victory Day parade in Moscow on Friday. The Russian intelligence agency accused the European bloc of adopting a revanchist stance against Russia and backing “reckless efforts” of what it labeled as the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv, despite being aware of the reputational risks involved. According to the SVR, Germany’s decision to bar Russian and Belarusian ambassadors from participating in its memorial activities should be viewed in this light. Notably, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić had earlier expressed interest in traveling to Russia. However, Fico has recently withdrawn from public appearances, including Labour Day celebrations. Similarly, Vučić ended his trip to the United States prematurely due to health concerns. The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, issued a stern caution, stating that countries defying the EU’s advisory by engaging in Russia’s events could face potential consequences. Kallas, a known Kremlin opponent and former Estonian prime minister, instead encouraged European heads of state and government envoys to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine by visiting Kyiv on May 9. In defiance, Fico reaffirmed his commitment to visiting Moscow, stressing the importance of honoring the Red Army soldiers who liberated Slovakia and acknowledging the millions who perished under Nazi oppression. FCT: AMMC to Demolish 24 Unauthorized Buildings on Guzape Waterway

The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), operating under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has issued a directive for the demolition of 24 unlawfully constructed two-storey buildings situated directly on a water channel in Guzape, Abuja. As reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Coordinator of AMMC, Felix Obuah, made the announcement during an official inspection of several locations within the capital city. He was accompanied by senior council personnel during the tour. Obuah revealed that the disputed buildings, developed by Cityscape Estate on Plot 4851, were erected without obtaining the necessary permits and development approvals. Calling the development a serious violation of Abuja’s urban planning standards, Obuah stated emphatically that the unauthorized structures would be dismantled to serve as a cautionary example for other potential violators. “We have moved machines, construction tools, and demolition equipment to the site. These unauthorized buildings, lacking proper permits, will be brought down,” Obuah declared. He further emphasized that any other structures found to be without legitimate approvals—especially those located on water channels or close to major road corridors—would face similar demolition actions. “It’s not going to be business as usual anymore. Our mission is to enforce the Abuja master plan strictly,” he stated. In addition, Obuah warned that AMMC staff members found to be complicit in the illegal approvals or negligent oversight would face strict disciplinary measures. He affirmed that the council will not tolerate any internal sabotage or administrative laxity moving forward. In response to the situation, AMMC granted a two-week grace period at the request of the developer to allow for the voluntary removal of the violations. The developer, Kadiri Obaidi, admitted the breaches and accepted accountability, noting that some aspects of the unauthorized development resulted from the independent actions of the estate’s subscribers. Federal High Court Sets May 29 for Hearing Lawsuit by Abuja Scavengers and Beggars Against Minister Wike, IGP, and Others

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has scheduled May 29, 2025, as the new hearing date for a legal case brought by vulnerable residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)—including street scavengers, beggars, and small-scale traders—against the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and several federal agencies. Justice James Omotosho presided over the case and approved an adjournment following a request made by the plaintiffs’ counsel, Adamu Mahmood. Mahmood sought additional time to file a supplementary affidavit in response to a counter-affidavit recently submitted by one of the defendants. The plaintiffs, who represent a marginalized population in Abuja, are pursuing N500 million in compensation. They argue that their constitutional rights were infringed upon due to alleged unlawful treatment by the authorities. According to a report from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) had previously filed a counter-affidavit on April 15, 2025. The document, sworn by an officer named Goodness Akomolafe, categorically rejected all claims made by the plaintiffs. The NSCDC maintained that no infringement on fundamental human rights occurred in any of their enforcement actions. Similarly, the Department of State Services (DSS)—another party to the case—also rejected the allegations. The DSS requested the court to dismiss the lawsuit on the grounds that the accusations are baseless. The original legal motion, referenced as FHC/ABJ/CS/1749/3024, was filed by legal practitioner Abba Hikima. Representing the collective interests of the vulnerable residents, Hikima filed the motion on November 20, 2024, a day after it was dated. The lawsuit targets six respondents: Minister Nyesom Wike, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, the Director-General of DSS, and the Commandant-General of NSCDC, as the 1st through 4th respondents. The Attorney-General of the Federation and the Federal Government of Nigeria are also listed as the 5th and 6th respondents. Hikima is advocating for an order from the court that would compel these government institutions to pay ₦500 million in general and exemplary damages. The compensation is intended to address the purported infringement of the basic rights of economically disadvantaged individuals found on the streets of Abuja. Tinubu Orders Ban on Foreign Goods, Launches National Industrialisation Policy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instituted a comprehensive ban on the importation of foreign products, particularly those that can be locally manufactured in Nigeria. He has also imposed strict guidelines for foreign workers entering Nigeria to execute projects that skilled Nigerian artisans and contractors are capable of handling. Such foreign involvement will now require explicit clearance from the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), with clear justification. This announcement was made public by Mohammed Idris, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the President at the State House, Abuja. According to Minister Idris, the President’s decision is a bold economic reform designed to empower Nigeria’s domestic industries and elevate local productivity. This newly approved framework is titled the Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy. The minister compared this approach to the “America First” model once championed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, highlighting a redirection of government spending to favor local businesses and reduce reliance on foreign imports. “This initiative promotes a confident, self-reliant business culture,” Idris stated. “It prioritizes local industries and ensures public investment supports Nigerian-made goods and services.” To solidify the framework, President Tinubu has mandated the Attorney General of the Federation to prepare an Executive Order that will legally enforce this policy. Major Highlights of the Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy Citing Nigeria’s sugar industry as a case study, the minister lamented ongoing imports despite local production capabilities through bodies like the Nigerian Sugar Council. He emphasized that the new policy seeks to halt such oversight and stimulate local capacity. “Contractors can no longer operate as middlemen importing goods, while local industries remain underutilized. Our spending must circulate within Nigeria,” he emphasized. This Nigeria First initiative forms part of the broader economic reforms pursued by the Tinubu administration, which also includes fuel subsidy removal, a new FX regime, and policies aimed at rebuilding investor trust. The administration views this as a vital step toward promoting industrialization, job creation, and sustainable economic growth through local empowerment. Despite anticipated resistance and implementation bottlenecks, officials maintain that the government is committed to strict enforcement. “This marks a transformative shift in our economic policy. It places Nigeria—its industries, workforce, and innovation—at the core of our developmental goals,” Idris concluded. The Renewed Hope Nigeria First Policy will become fully operational following the signing of the Executive Order by the President.
