The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has responded to a viral video showing the public display of the nation’s currency, Naira, being freely sprayed at a wedding in Kano, Kano State, on Friday, October 24, 2024. The video led to widespread accusations of Naira abuse, with many Nigerians, including prominent national newspapers, attributing the act to Mrs. Fauziya Danjuma Goje, the daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje. As part of its ongoing fight against currency mutilation and the dollarization of Nigeria’s economy, the EFCC quickly launched an investigation into the matter. After reviewing the video, the commission discovered that while the alleged Naira abuse did occur, it did not take place at Goje’s daughter’s wedding as initially believed. Instead, the incident occurred at the wedding dinner of Amina Babagana Zannah, held on the same date. Zannah is the daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, also known as Hafsat Gold Nigeria, the CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise, which operates in Abuja, Kano, and Dubai. Haruna has since confirmed the incident, acknowledging that the Naira abuse took place at her daughter’s wedding dinner. She explained that the bridegroom, Ibrahim Mohammad, is from Niger Republic, and it was members of his family who were responsible for spraying both Naira notes and dollar bills during the celebration. The EFCC has invited the groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, to appear at the commission’s national headquarters in Abuja, along with those from his family who participated in the act of spraying currency at the wedding. After nearly two months of being denied access to his legal team, Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was finally granted access by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday. The decision came following the intervention of Hon. Obi Aguocha, a legal expert, who played a crucial role in securing the meeting. Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel for Kanu’s legal team, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday evening. Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been officially sworn in as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at the union’s national secretariat in Abuja. Six people were killed, and many others injured following an attack by youths on Fulani residents in Mera community, Augie Local Government Area, Kebbi State, on Sunday evening. The violence reportedly erupted after some Fulani individuals were accused of being involved in recent bandit attacks in the area. Yet, over 120 days have passed without the policy taking effect, while Nigerians continue to suffer from escalating costs, including food inflation, which now exceeds 40 percent, the highest in decades,” the statement noted. The statement continued, “The blatant disregard for government policy by Tinubu’s appointees, coupled with the finance ministry’s failure to issue a gazette even after four months, highlights the ineptitude and lack of seriousness that typifies the Tinubu administration. “Regrettably, instead of prioritizing governance, they focus on attacking opponents—Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi—while using compromised courts to create discord within the opposition. It’s disgraceful. “Tinubu came to office ill-prepared. He makes decisions first and contemplates the outcomes later. The Nigerian Army has reported significant progress in combating oil theft in the Niger Delta, with troops dismantling more than 43 illegal oil bunkering sites, apprehending 19 suspects, and seizing over 260,000 litres of stolen petroleum products. In a statement released on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Division, detailed that the troops had also destroyed 11 vehicles, 21 boats, and 11 motorcycles involved in crude oil theft operations. Additionally, the troops demolished numerous illegal bunkering sites, three fibre boats, five wooden boats, and seized over 41,000 litres of stolen oil products. In Buguma Creeks, operations led to the dismantling of four active illegal refining sites, the destruction of eight large cooking vessels, reservoirs, and three local boats containing over 12,500 litres of stolen products. The statement further noted that troops intercepted multiple wooden boats holding over 10,000 litres of stolen oil around Odagwa, Akwa, Oza West, Oyigbo, Obozur, and Ayama areas.

When ANIF investigators conducted an unexpected search of the 54-year-old economist’s home and office as part of a fraud probe, they allegedly found multiple CDs that documented his sex with various married women. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the president of Equatorial Guinea, fired Engonga after the video went viral online and caused a stir in the media. Decree No. 118/2024, issued November 4th, states that the reason for the removal was “irregularities committed in the execution of his powers, as well as considered improper social and familial behavior for carrying out official responsibilities. The story was confirmed by the French online blog Afrikmatin, which stated that Engonga was chained and sent to Malabo Central Prison after being formally removed from his position on November 6, 2024. He is accused of embezzlement and corruption.
