The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has revealed that a significant number of electricity users across Nigeria are still without prepaid meters, exposing millions of households and businesses to estimated billing practices by electricity distribution companies (DisCos). In its third-quarter 2025 electricity industry performance report, published on the Commission’s official platform, NERC stated that as of 30 September 2025, only 6.662 million customers out of the 12.030 million active registered electricity consumers connected to the national grid had been metered. This translates to a metering coverage level of 55.37 percent, leaving approximately 5.36 million customers without meters nationwide. The report further explained that during the third quarter of 2025, a total of 228,614 end-user customers received electricity meters across all 12 electricity distribution companies operating in the country. Among the DisCos, Ibadan, Aba, and Abuja recorded the highest volume of meter installations within the period. These three DisCos accounted for 23.38 percent, 20.81 percent, and 19.06 percent of all meters installed nationwide, respectively. When compared with the second quarter of 2025, where 226,959 customers were metered, the Commission noted a marginal increase of 0.73 percent in total meter deployment in Q3 2025. Although the rise was modest, it indicated a slight improvement in nationwide metering efforts. Despite the overall increase, the report highlighted that nine distribution companies experienced a decline in meter installation during the quarter under review. Port Harcourt DisCo and Jos DisCo recorded the most significant reductions, with meter installation figures dropping by 62.35 percent and 61.68 percent, respectively. On the other hand, a few DisCos showed notable growth in metering activities. Aba DisCo recorded the highest improvement with an increase of 173.45 percent, followed by Abuja DisCo, which grew by 38.28 percent, and Ibadan DisCo, which posted a 17.72 percent rise in meter installations during the same period. NERC also provided a detailed breakdown of how the meters were deployed under different metering frameworks. Out of the 228,614 customers metered in Q3 2025, 176,302 customers, representing 77.12 percent, were connected under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme. Additionally, 44,104 customers or 19.29 percent were metered through the Vendor-Financed framework. The Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP) accounted for 7,902 installations or 3.46 percent, while 175 meters (0.08 percent) were installed under the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF). A further 131 customers or 0.06 percent were metered through the DisCo-Financed arrangement. Under the MAP scheme alone, 176,302 meters were installed in the third quarter of 2025, representing an 18.20 percent increase compared to the 149,150 meters deployed in the second quarter of the year. Among the distribution companies, Ibadan DisCo recorded the highest number of MAP installations with 53,441 meters, followed by Abuja DisCo with 35,449, and Benin DisCo with 26,690 meters. These figures accounted for 30.31 percent, 20.11 percent, and 15.14 percent, respectively, of all MAP-installed meters during the quarter.

Industry stakeholders disclosed that petrol prices could fall to around ₦739 per litre nationwide, depending on the next move by Dangote Refinery. This development follows ongoing competition within Nigeria’s downstream oil sector, which has already triggered multiple price adjustments. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) revealed that its members have received assurances of direct petrol supply from Dangote Refinery at ₦699 per litre, with the arrangement expected to take effect in January 2026. Speaking in an exclusive interview, the President of IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi, explained that the promised direct sales would significantly reduce logistics costs and enable independent marketers to sell petrol at a more affordable rate. Toward the end of the previous year, Dangote Refinery announced a substantial reduction in its petrol prices as part of a strategy aimed at gaining market dominance and outcompeting rival marketers. This decision effectively sparked a broader price war that has continued into 2026. Market observations show that petrol prices presently range between ₦739 and ₦900 per litre across different filling stations nationwide. The wide variation underscores the uneven impact of price reductions, with many Nigerians still unable to access cheaper fuel. While Dangote-backed outlets offer lower prices, several stations—including some operated by major marketers—continue to sell petrol at much higher rates, particularly in Abuja and other urban centers. As a result, the majority of consumers have yet to experience the full benefit of recent price cuts. Addressing the situation, Maigandi stated that IPMAN members are prepared to cap petrol prices at ₦750 per litre once Dangote Refinery commences direct distribution to independent marketers. He explained that Dangote had assured marketers that direct supply would begin in January 2026, eliminating the need for middlemen and significantly reducing transportation expenses. According to Maigandi, once petrol is sold at ₦699 per litre from the refinery, transportation costs—estimated at around ₦15 per litre—would bring the final landing cost to approximately ₦750 per litre at filling stations. He noted that once direct deliveries begin, fuel queues would ease, supply would stabilize, and marketers would be able to immediately reduce prices at the pump. Maigandi emphasized that the anticipated development would encourage more marketers to purchase directly from the refinery, resulting in increased competition and further price moderation. It will be recalled that in December, Dangote Refinery slashed its gantry price from ₦838 to ₦699 per litre, a move that reshaped pricing dynamics across the downstream sector. Subsequently, Aliko Dangote, President of the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery, approved a pump price of ₦739 per litre for MRS filling stations nationwide. However, despite these reductions, the price adjustment has not been uniformly adopted across the sector, with petrol still retailing for as much as ₦900 per litre in parts of Abuja and other regions. What you need is the bold expression of His person and presence within you. The more conscious you are of the Spirit’s indwelling, the more He manifests Himself to you and through you. The Holy Spirit isn’t a feeling, a wind, or a power; He’s the Father that dwells in you, just as the Lord Jesus said in John 14:10, “…the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” When He said this, He was referring to the Holy Spirit. Therefore, refuse to think you’re limited, disadvantaged or hamstrung. You’re full of divine energy, wisdom and ability. You’re more than a conqueror. You can do all things. But in the New Testament, it’s different. When you received the Holy Spirit, you received a person into your life. You received the fullness of the Spirit without measure, not in parts or degrees. You have the totality of God’s Spirit resident in you, with power. You don’t need to ask for more anointing or more power from God. What you need is a greater consciousness of the One who lives in you. The more you’re aware of His presence, the more His graces and power function through you. Stop “waiting” for the anointing to come; it’s already in you. That anointing teaches, guides, strengthens, and empowers you for success and impact, as read in our opening scripture. A pan-Igbo socio-cultural and humanitarian body, Ndi-Igbo Worldwide Union (NIWU), has accused the Nigerian Government of turning the Republic of Kenya into what it described as a “human hunting ground” following the arrest and extraordinary rendition of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Ben Nwankwo, and Secretary, Chief Charles Edemuzo, and released to journalists on Wednesday, the group explained that its formation was driven by the urgent need to confront critical challenges affecting Igbo people globally. According to NIWU, this became necessary due to what it termed prolonged silence and inaction by individuals and institutions entrusted with defending Igbo interests. The organization identified the conviction and sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu as a clear illustration of what it described as systemic injustice and long-standing marginalization of the Igbo ethnic group within the Nigerian state. NIWU strongly criticized the development, insisting that the continued detention of the IPOB leader reflects a deep disregard for justice, fairness, and the rule of law. Condemning the manner of Kanu’s arrest, the group demanded his immediate and unconditional release. It accused the Nigerian Government of breaching Kenya’s sovereignty by orchestrating his arrest and rendition outside established legal and diplomatic frameworks. NIWU argued that Nigeria’s actions amounted to an extraterritorial border violation, which undermines international law and human rights conventions. In its words, the union stated that the conviction of Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu, leader of IPOB, represents another instance of alleged abuse and violation of fundamental human rights by the Nigerian state. The group maintained that Kanu’s trial lacked proper jurisdiction and that the judgment was founded on legal provisions unfamiliar to established jurisprudence, a situation that has fueled public debates symbolized by the phrase, “show me the law.” NIWU further condemned, in strong and unequivocal terms, what it described as the kidnapping, alleged torture, and extraordinary rendition of Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria. The group asserted that through this single act, Nigeria effectively transformed a sovereign nation into a space where individuals could be hunted beyond national borders, without due consideration for the seriousness of such international crimes. The union rejected Kanu’s conviction in its entirety, emphasizing that its position was anchored strictly on principles of justice, legality, and respect for the rule of law. It also lamented what it referred to as selective justice in Nigeria, pointing out that several court rulings favorable to Kanu have reportedly been ignored by the Federal Government. NIWU referenced multiple judicial decisions, including the Abia State Federal High Court ruling of January 19, 2022, which reportedly found the Nigerian state culpable in the 2017 invasion of Kanu’s residence. It also cited another ruling from the same court concerning the extraordinary rendition of Kanu from Kenya. Additionally, the group recalled an Enugu State High Court judgment that declared the proscription of IPOB as a terrorist organization unconstitutional, as well as a Supreme Court ruling delivered in December 2023. The organization called the attention of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to Kanu’s situation, stressing that the association bears a shared responsibility in safeguarding the rights of citizens and upholding constitutional protections under the law. However, NIWU issued a stern warning to certain Igbo elites, accusing them of exploiting the present challenges facing the Igbo people for personal political relevance. The group cautioned that history and the land itself would not forget such actions. Addressing Igbo youths, NIWU stated that the younger generation has not failed their people. Instead, it accused some political leaders and elders of disappointing the youth by allegedly sacrificing their future for individual political ambitions. The group assured that such a trend would not be allowed to continue and encouraged young men and women to persist in pursuing their rights through lawful means. Beyond Kanu’s case, NIWU also expressed concern over what it described as the absence of meaningful federal presence in the South-East region. According to the group, the area has been sidelined in critical national development projects, including railway infrastructure, seaport development, cargo airline services, and national gas pipeline networks. The union further accused the Federal Government of deliberately ignoring the security challenges faced by Christians, particularly Igbos and other moderate religious communities, who it said have been subjected to attacks by extremist groups across different parts of the country. NIWU also lamented the state of Nigerian correctional facilities, alleging that prisons are overcrowded with Igbo youths detained on what it described as unverified and trumped-up allegations of involvement with IPOB or the Eastern Security Network (ESN). According to the group, many of these detainees are held without trial despite having committed no criminal offense.

Let your compassion lead. Let your words, actions and outlook on life reflect your convictions about Christ and His glorious Gospel. UBA Confirms Changes in Customer Communications In a recent communication sent via email to its customers on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, United Bank for Africa (UBA) clarified that the N50 electronic money transfer levy will now be formally recognized as stamp duty across all banks in Nigeria. The email from UBA highlighted key points for account holders: UBA emphasized its commitment to transparency and assured customers that it would continue to keep them informed about regulatory and operational changes that affect banking activities. Fintech Firms Support the Implementation Back on September 7, 2024, Nigerian financial technology firms (fintechs) had announced plans to introduce the N50 stamp duty for electronic transactions above N10,000. According to these firms, this measure aligns with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) regulations, ensuring compliance with federal tax policies.
