A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has claimed the life of a yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist after his yellow Quic motorcycle caught fire following a collision. The incident occurred on Thursday night, March 20, 2025, in front of the NNPC Filling Station, Ibafo, Ogun State.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the crash happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. The state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed in a statement that the motorcyclist was reportedly speeding when he lost control and crashed into a culvert near the petrol station. The impact caused the motorcycle to burst into flames, resulting in the instant death of the rider.
“The Divisional Police Officer of Ibafo reported a fatal motorcycle accident that took place on March 20, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. in front of the NNPC Filling Station, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The accident involved a yellow Quic motorcycle with an unknown registration number, leading to the unfortunate death of the rider, whose identity remains undisclosed.”
Emergency responders, including officers from the Motor Traffic Police (MOTOPOL) unit, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The deceased’s body was taken to Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo, for proper handling. Additionally, the burnt motorcycle was transported to the police station for safekeeping and further examination by the Vehicle Inspection Office.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to road safety regulations and speed limits to prevent similar tragedies. The police command urged motorcyclists to exercise caution and prioritize safety while on the road.
