There was widespread panic in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, following an explosion that occurred at a mosque in the Gamboru Ward area of the city. The blast is believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device allegedly planted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Although exact casualty figures have not been officially confirmed, residents fear that several lives may have been lost due to the timing and location of the blast. The Police Public Relations Officer in Borno State, ASP Nahum Daso, stated that he could not immediately verify the explosion. However, he confirmed that he was on his way to the scene to personally assess the situation and provide an official update.
In response to the incident, security operatives swiftly moved to the affected area and sealed it off. The cordon was put in place to prevent additional casualties and to enable an initial evaluation of the scene by security and emergency officials.
