Lone Survivor of Tragic Family House Fire Passes Away

The Ita Marun community in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State, is in mourning following the tragic death of 25-year-old Kehinde Oduse, the sole survivor of a horrific house fire that claimed the lives of his wife, Eniola (22), and their two children, Eri (4) and Onoara (2). Kehinde succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning at the Gbagada General Hospital.

Details of the Incident

In the early hours of November 26, unidentified individuals broke into the family’s residence at approximately 2 a.m. while they were asleep. The attackers doused the apartment, particularly the family’s bedroom, with petrol and set it ablaze. The fire engulfed the house, leaving Kehinde with severe burns while his wife and children perished in the inferno.

The Fight for Survival

Kehinde was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, battling extensive burns. Despite efforts by medical professionals to save him, he passed away around 5 a.m. on Tuesday due to the severity of his injuries. According to his twin sister, Taiwo, the doctors had warned the family that his survival chances were slim.

Speaking in tears, Taiwo recounted:
“He gave up this morning despite all efforts by the doctors. We hoped he would pull through, but the burns were too severe.”

During a visit to the hospital on Sunday, Kehinde was seen in excruciating pain in the emergency ward, surrounded by his grieving family, who tried to comfort him during his final days.

Family Calls for Justice

The devastating fire is believed to be linked to a conspiracy over the family’s ancestral land, according to a relative, Razaq. He alleged that individuals from the community orchestrated the attack and urged authorities to investigate thoroughly.

“This was no accident,” Razaq said. “We’ve found evidence suggesting a conspiracy involving some people who want to seize our family’s ancestral land. Justice must be served.”

The family is now appealing to law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible for the heinous crime.

Community’s Grief and Call for Action

The Ita Marun community is reeling from the tragedy, with calls for increased security to prevent similar incidents in the future. The loss of an entire family has left residents shocked and heartbroken, sparking discussions about safety and justice in the area.
