The Lagos State Taskforce has recently confiscated 58 motorcycles in an enforcement operation targeting the ban on commercial motorcycles, commonly known as okadas. This action was taken to ensure compliance with the ban, which prohibits okadas from operating on specific routes within the city.
According to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the operation was conducted across several high-traffic areas, including Gbagada-Oshodi, Oshodi-Apapa, Mile 2-Badagry Expressway, and Apple Junction. These locations have seen persistent okada activity, despite restrictions in place.
The purpose of the operation was to curb the ongoing violations of the okada ban and alleviate traffic congestion caused by motorcyclists ignoring the order. By removing the motorcycles from these areas, the taskforce aimed to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and reduce bottlenecks, making commuting safer for both pedestrians and drivers.
Lagos State authorities have emphasized that enforcing the okada ban is an ongoing effort. The government remains committed to ensuring safer roads and reducing the dangers associated with illegal motorcycle operations.
