Katsina Judiciary Records Milestone with Appointment of First Female Chief Registrar

In a historic development, the Katsina State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has officially appointed Basira Umar as the first female Chief Registrar of the Katsina State High Court of Justice. This landmark achievement comes nearly four decades after the creation of the state in 1987.

The announcement was made public on Saturday through a statement released by Musa Usman, the Director of Protocols at the High Court of Justice. According to him, Umar’s appointment follows the retirement of the former Chief Registrar, Mr. Mustapha Hassan-Rumah, who previously held the position.

Highlighting the significance of the office, Usman explained that the Chief Registrar functions as the judiciary’s chief accounting officer, entrusted with managing financial matters, budget preparation, and proper oversight of funds. Beyond financial accountability, the office also carries the responsibility of supervising the administrative operations of the judiciary, ensuring the smooth running of daily activities across the court system.

Before this appointment, Basira Umar distinguished herself as the Director (Deputy Chief Registrar) of the Multi-Door Court, where she played a pivotal role in advancing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms within the state. Her dedication, track record of service, and leadership skills positioned her as a fitting choice for this groundbreaking role.
