Ifon-Ilobu Communal Crisis: Osun Extends 24-Hour Curfew To Erin-Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially extended the ongoing curfew in crisis-hit communities to Erin-Osun town, situated in Ifon-Orolu Local Government Area. This move comes in response to the escalating communal clashes between Ifon and Ilobu.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, emphasizing that the curfew now runs for 24 hours daily until further notice. The decision aims to restore peace and prevent further deterioration of security in the affected areas.

Enhanced Security Measures

Governor Adeleke has ordered an increased security presence in the region. The directive mandates all security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Amotekun Corps, to intensify surveillance in Erin-Osun and other affected towns.

According to the statement, all security operatives are to enforce strict compliance with the 24-hour curfew to maintain law and order. The government has reiterated its commitment to preventing the conflict from spiraling out of control and ensuring the safety of residents.

Governor Adeleke’s Response to the Crisis

Governor Adeleke expressed deep concern over the resurgence of hostilities between Ifon and Ilobu, lamenting the loss of lives and destruction of property. He reaffirmed his administration’s stance on peace and stability, warning that those responsible for inciting violence will face the full weight of the law.

“The Osun State government will not tolerate any further breakdown of law and order. Peace must prevail, and all citizens are urged to embrace harmony,” the statement read.

Additionally, Governor Adeleke instructed the state peace committee, which was inaugurated earlier this year, to resume active mediation efforts in resolving the crisis.

Background of the Conflict

The communal clashes reignited on March 20, 2025, leading to reported casualties and significant property damage. According to DAILY POST, at least three individuals lost their lives, while goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in the violence.

In response, the Osun State government had initially imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Ifon and Ilobu. However, following continued unrest, the restrictions have now been extended to a 24-hour curfew encompassing Erin-Osun.

Government’s Call for Peace

Governor Adeleke has urged residents of Osun State to uphold the values of peace and unity. He called on all stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth organizations, to work together in fostering a lasting resolution to the dispute.
