Former Benue Speaker Refutes Allegations of Plotting Governor Alia’s Impeachment

Former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, has strongly denied speculations linking him to an alleged plot to remove Governor Hyacinth Alia from office.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday through his media aide, Terver Zamber, Dajoh described the claims as “baseless, unfounded, and misleading.” He stressed that during his tenure as Speaker, his relationship with Governor Alia was characterized by mutual respect, cooperation, and unwavering support for the administration’s developmental agenda.

Vote of Confidence in Governor Alia

Dajoh reminded the public that under his leadership, the 10th Benue State House of Assembly had earlier passed a vote of confidence in Governor Hyacinth Alia, a move that reaffirmed the legislators’ commitment to strengthening the administration’s vision for the state. According to him, such an action was a clear indication that there was no agenda to undermine or destabilize the government.

Questioning His Suspension

The former Speaker raised concerns about his suspension, questioning why he was singled out if indeed there was a supposed plan to impeach the governor.

“If there was a conspiracy against the governor, who were my alleged collaborators? Why am I the only one suspended if this claim holds any truth?” Dajoh asked.

He argued that the suspension lacked logical justification and hinted at political undercurrents behind the decision.

Criticism of Hon. Terna Shimawua’s Motion

Dajoh also faulted Hon. Terna Shimawua, the lawmaker representing Kyan State Constituency, who initiated the motion for his suspension. He noted that Shimawua had not made any notable contributions in the Assembly since his election, and therefore found it questionable that his first major action was to move a motion against him.

Accepting Suspension in Good Faith

Although he described his suspension as unfair, Dajoh accepted the three-month disciplinary action in good faith. However, he maintained that the move was politically motivated and influenced by external actors, stating that non-state individuals were orchestrating the crisis and using certain lawmakers to execute their plans.

Resignation to Protect Peace and Stability

The former Speaker emphasized that his resignation was guided by a desire to protect the peace, unity, and stability of Benue State. He urged citizens not to be misled by fabricated stories aimed at damaging his reputation.

Dajoh reassured the public of his loyalty to the democratic process and called on all political stakeholders to focus on governance rather than unnecessary distractions that could derail the progress of Benue State.
