Fintiri Congratulates Adeleke, Says Osun Election Reflects Voters’ Choice

3 minutes, 5 seconds Read

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke following Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election, describing the outcome as an expression of the electorate’s preference.

Fintiri said the result demonstrated the desire of Osun voters for continuity, responsive governance and leadership focused on improving the welfare of citizens.

The Adamawa governor’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

Fintiri: Voters Have Spoken

In his congratulatory message, Fintiri described Adeleke’s victory as well deserved and expressed confidence that the Osun governor would continue implementing policies aimed at transforming the state.

“I heartily congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke on this well-deserved victory. I have no doubt that he will continue to deliver on his mandate to transform Osun State and improve the lives of its citizens,” Fintiri said.

His comments place the election result within a broader democratic context, arguing that the decision of voters should remain central to political leadership.

Praise for Tinubu’s Role in the Election

Fintiri also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what he described as his commitment to the democratic process during the Osun election.

According to the Adamawa governor, the President’s decision not to interfere with the outcome demonstrated respect for the electorate and Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

“I must commend President Tinubu for standing on the side of democracy. By not interfering with the outcome of the process and by ensuring that the right thing was done, he has proven himself to be a true democrat,” he said.

Fintiri further stressed that political leaders should respect electoral choices irrespective of party affiliation.

Call for Unity After the Election

Beyond congratulating Adeleke, Fintiri urged political stakeholders in Osun State to move beyond electoral disagreements and focus on governance.

He called on politicians and other stakeholders to accept the outcome, put their differences aside and work with the governor toward the development of the state.

The message reflects a familiar post-election challenge in Nigeria: translating a contested political campaign into cooperation around governance once voting has ended.

Why the Osun Result Matters

Governorship elections in Nigeria often have consequences beyond the immediate contest because they influence the balance of political power within individual states and can shape wider national political calculations.

For Osun, the result also places renewed attention on Adeleke’s administration and its ability to turn electoral support into measurable improvements in areas such as infrastructure, public services, employment and economic development.

Fintiri’s intervention is therefore significant not only as a congratulatory message but also as a call for political actors to respect the electoral process and allow governance to take precedence after the polls.

What Happens Next?

With the election result established, attention will now shift from campaigning to governance and the delivery of the administration’s promises.

For Adeleke, maintaining public confidence will depend on how effectively his government responds to the expectations of voters and addresses the state’s development priorities.

Fintiri urged the governor to remain focused on the people of Osun State and prayed for wisdom, strength and divine guidance as he continues in office.
