EPL: Ruben Amorim Says Comparing Him with Pep Guardiola Is a “Joke” Before the Manchester Derby

Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, has dismissed comparisons between himself and Pep Guardiola, describing them as nothing short of a “joke”. The Portuguese coach made this statement while addressing the media ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated Manchester Derby in the Premier League.

Amorim made it clear that his current situation at Old Trafford cannot be weighed on the same scale as Guardiola’s achievements at Manchester City, especially given the Spaniard’s record-breaking successes over the past nine years at the Etihad.

United head into the Derby sitting in ninth place on the Premier League table, while City surprisingly occupy the 13th position after suffering two consecutive defeats. Despite this, Amorim believes he is under much greater scrutiny than Guardiola.

“No, you cannot compare,” Amorim stated confidently.

“The guy [Guardiola] is winning all the time. He can afford to relax if he’s not winning anymore. I, on the other hand, have to prove myself every single day here. I feel that responsibility deeply. Every day I walk into this club, I know I must do better.”

Amorim went on to emphasize that contrasting his position with Guardiola’s is “just a joke”. According to him, Guardiola has already earned his legacy at City, whereas he still has to build his own.

The Manchester United boss concluded by saying:

“I’m comfortable with the pressure, but let’s be honest—comparing me to Guardiola is not realistic. We have bigger issues to solve at Manchester United right now.”

This remark sets the tone for what promises to be a fiery Manchester Derby, where both clubs are under pressure to revive their Premier League campaigns.
