Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has directed his frustration at new signing Eberechi Eze after the Gunners suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Liverpool in their Premier League clash on Sunday evening.

The North London side fell short as Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai struck a sensational long-range effort from over 30 yards, sealing all three points for the defending champions at Anfield.

Speaking during his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Arteta expressed clear disappointment with Eze’s missed chance to equalize shortly after coming onto the pitch. According to the Arsenal boss, failing to capitalize on such a golden opportunity was a defining moment in the game.

Eze, who was recently signed from Crystal Palace in a transfer deal worth around £67.5 million, made his much-anticipated debut for Arsenal during the encounter. The midfielder replaced Gabriel Martinelli in the 70th minute and almost immediately found himself in a scoring position. However, he squandered the chance, leaving his manager visibly displeased.

Arteta said firmly:

“You need to score in those moments. Today we had three, four, five clear situations inside the box in one-vs-one scenarios. Eze was completely through on goal just to finish the action, and if you want to win matches at this level, you must put the ball in the back of the net.”

This missed chance overshadowed Eze’s debut as Arsenal struggled to find an equalizer. The defeat marked the Gunners’ first loss of the new Premier League season, following their back-to-back wins in the opening two games.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have maintained a perfect start to their campaign, collecting a maximum nine points from three matches, and now sit comfortably at the top of the Premier League table. Their dominant performance sends a strong message to rivals about their title credentials for the season ahead.
