Nigerian musicians recorded remarkable financial success on the global streaming platform Spotify in 2025, generating more than ₦60 billion in total revenue, according to the company’s latest annual performance report released on Monday. The figures highlight the rapid growth of the Nigerian music industry in the digital streaming era and confirm the country’s strong presence in the international entertainment market. The report showed that earnings made by Nigerian artists on Spotify increased by over 140 percent within the last two years, demonstrating a significant rise in global demand for Afrobeats and other Nigerian music genres. This steady growth reflects the increasing popularity of Nigerian songs across different continents, as more listeners continue to stream music from the region daily. Another important detail revealed in the report is that about 58 percent of the total royalties earned by Nigerian artists in 2025 came from independent artists and independent record labels. This indicates that many musicians are now succeeding without relying on major record companies, thanks to digital distribution platforms that allow artists to publish and promote their music worldwide. Spotify’s statistics also showed strong engagement from listeners. Nigerian artists achieved approximately 30.3 billion streams on the platform during 2025, while total listening time reached about 1.6 billion hours. These numbers confirm that Nigerian music remains one of the most streamed African music categories globally. Female artists from Nigeria also experienced impressive growth during the same period. The report stated that local streams of Nigerian female musicians increased by 55 percent, showing that more listeners within Nigeria are supporting female performers than ever before. This growth reflects the rising influence of women in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Globally, Nigerian music continued to gain massive exposure. The report noted that Nigerian artists appeared in nearly 320 million user-generated playlists worldwide, while more than 12 million playlists were created by users in Nigeria alone. Playlists play a major role in music discovery, and this high number means that Nigerian songs are being shared widely across different countries. In total, Spotify users created over 60 million playlists featuring Nigerian artists in 2025, further proving the worldwide acceptance of Nigerian music and the increasing role of streaming services in promoting African talent to global audiences.
Popular Afrobeats star Davido has reacted angrily to a viral video showing a serious bullying incident involving students of Igbinedion Secondary School in Edo State. The music star, whose real name is David Adeleke, shared his reaction on the social media platform X on Sunday, where he condemned the act in very strong words after watching the disturbing video that has been circulating online. In his reaction, he described the attackers as behaving like animals and expressed deep disgust over the incident. The viral clip shows two male students violently attacking another student who had already fallen to the ground during the confrontation. In the footage, the victim is seen struggling while the attackers continue to hit him repeatedly without showing any sign of stopping. At a certain moment in the video, one of the students pulls the victim by his school uniform, drags him across the ground, and steps on his chest and head while the boy cries loudly in pain. The situation becomes more disturbing as the assault continues for several seconds without intervention. Another student who was present at the scene recorded the incident with a mobile phone. While recording, the student could be heard pleading with the attackers to stop the violence, but the warning was ignored as the bullying continued. The shocking video quickly spread across different social media platforms, causing massive reactions from the public. Many users online expressed anger, disappointment, and concern over the level of violence seen among students, which led to calls for immediate disciplinary action from the school authorities and law-enforcement agencies. Following the public outrage, the management of the school took swift action by expelling the students who were directly involved in the physical assault. The student who recorded the video was also punished and given suspension for participating in the incident by filming instead of stopping the fight. In an official statement released afterwards, the Edo State Police Command confirmed that disciplinary measures had already been taken against the students involved in the bullying case. According to the statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikioyedem, explained that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to begin a complete investigation into the incident in order to ensure that justice is served. The police authority also made it clear that acts of bullying, violence, or intimidation among students will not be tolerated under any circumstance, adding that anyone found responsible for such behavior will face the full weight of the law. The incident has continued to generate discussions online, with many Nigerians calling for stronger discipline in schools, improved student supervision, and stricter penalties to prevent similar situations in the future.
Popular Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh is currently facing a ₦200 million lawsuit following a viral video that showed her performing a spiritual deliverance session on a schoolgirl within a school environment. The legal action was filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, by human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi, who initiated the case on behalf of the teenage student involved. According to the legal filing, the girl, who is a Junior Secondary School (JSS1) student from Rivers State, was allegedly subjected to a religious exercise that the lawyer described as inappropriate and potentially harmful. Obasi stated that the incident reportedly happened inside the school premises, where the actress was said to have carried out a deliverance prayer on the student during a visit. The situation later attracted public attention after the video of the event surfaced online and began circulating across different social media platforms. The lawyer argued that publishing the footage without proper approval from the minor or her guardians violated the student’s fundamental rights. He referenced Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which protects the privacy of citizens, as well as provisions of the Child Rights Act, which safeguards children from actions that may expose them to harm, embarrassment, or public exploitation. In the suit, the plaintiff requested that the court award ₦200 million as damages, issue an order directing a public apology, and compel the removal of the video from all online platforms where it has been shared. The legal representative also asked the court to officially declare that the act amounted to a violation of the student’s constitutional rights to dignity, protection, and personal privacy. Reports gathered by LMSINT MEDIA indicate that the controversy began after Tonto Dikeh posted a video a few days earlier showing her praying for and conducting what she described as a spiritual deliverance for a schoolgirl. The incident allegedly took place during her visit to a secondary school located in Durumi II, Abuja, where the interaction was recorded and later uploaded to social media, leading to widespread reactions and legal consequences.

Global music icon and entrepreneur Rihanna departed Los Angeles on Monday, only a few hours after a disturbing shooting episode occurred at her Beverly Hills residence. Witnesses reported seeing the Grammy Award-winning performer arriving at Van Nuys Airport, where she boarded a private aircraft. Several pieces of luggage were transported in multiple vehicles to the airport’s private terminal before the singer’s departure. Authorities have identified Ivanna Lisette Ortiz as the primary suspect connected to the incident. Reports indicate that Ortiz was taken into custody on Sunday after allegedly discharging numerous rounds toward the residence belonging to the internationally known singer and business mogul. Law enforcement officials stated that the suspect approached the property in a Tesla vehicle while carrying a semi-automatic rifle. Investigators believe approximately ten shots were fired toward the house shared by Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky. During the preliminary examination of the property, officers discovered four bullet impacts on the front gate of the estate. Additional rounds reportedly struck the garage structure of a nearby neighboring home, causing minor property damage in the surrounding area. Following the gunfire, the suspect reportedly fled from the location. Authorities later located and detained Ortiz roughly 12 kilometers from the scene, and the vehicle believed to have been used during the incident was recovered by investigators. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed that no individuals sustained injuries during the attack, despite the number of rounds that were discharged. Ortiz has now been formally charged with attempted murder, and law enforcement agencies continue working to determine the motive behind the alleged act. Investigators are currently reviewing evidence and gathering additional information related to the case. The shocking event has raised security concerns in the upscale Beverly Hills neighborhood, where several high-profile celebrities maintain residences. Authorities have assured the public that the investigation remains ongoing and further updates will be released as more details become available.
The Lagos State Government has issued a warning to Nollywood actress Sarah Martins regarding her recent act of cooking meals and sharing food with people on public roads within the state. Authorities explained that such activities breach established environmental and public order regulations governing the use of public infrastructure in Lagos. The caution was communicated by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab. He delivered the message through a statement shared on his verified account on the social media platform X on Saturday evening. According to the commissioner, the government became aware of a video and reports showing the actress preparing food and distributing meals directly on the streets of Lagos. While acknowledging that the intention behind the activity appeared charitable and compassionate, Wahab stressed that the method used to carry out the initiative violates state regulations that govern sanitation, traffic management, and the use of public infrastructure. In his message, Wahab stated that although the government recognizes and appreciates acts of kindness aimed at assisting vulnerable residents, cooking and distributing food on public roads, pedestrian walkways, or road medians is not permitted under the environmental and public order laws enforced in Lagos State. He explained that the use of such public spaces for cooking or trading could create safety hazards, sanitation problems, and traffic disruptions. The commissioner further pointed out that this was not the first time the actress had been cautioned regarding similar conduct. According to him, the state government had previously raised concerns about the same issue last year. At the time, however, officials allowed the activity to continue after taking into consideration the humanitarian motive behind the initiative and appeals made on her behalf. Despite that earlier leniency, Wahab noted that repeated occurrences of the activity could not be ignored. He therefore urged the actress to immediately stop preparing food or conducting related charitable activities on public streets or other restricted areas across the state. The commissioner warned that failure to comply with the directive could lead to arrest and possible prosecution under existing environmental regulations. In addition, Wahab advised that charitable initiatives intended to support less-privileged individuals should be carried out through officially approved channels and in designated locations. By doing so, individuals and organizations would be able to continue their philanthropic work without breaching state environmental laws or creating public disturbances. He emphasized that proper coordination with relevant authorities ensures that aid reaches vulnerable members of society safely and efficiently while maintaining public order. Conducting such activities in approved spaces would also help reduce the environmental impact and avoid sanitation concerns that might arise from cooking or trading along busy roads. The commissioner concluded by reiterating the importance of respecting the law and maintaining order within the state. He stated that every resident and visitor in Lagos is expected to comply with the same regulations that apply in other organized and well-regulated cities around the world.
Nigerian Afropop singer Joeboy has revealed that gaining recognition in the mainstream music industry has become significantly more challenging for emerging artistes compared to a few years ago. The singer expressed genuine concern about the difficulties faced by talented newcomers who are trying to build their careers in today’s highly competitive music environment. Rising Challenges for Emerging Artistes In a recent interview on the popular media platform Jay On-Air, Joeboy shared his perspective on the evolving nature of the music industry and the increased expectations placed on artists who want to achieve mainstream success. According to him, the journey into the mainstream spotlight now requires much more than musical talent. Artists must also cultivate strong online personalities and maintain an active presence on social media platforms. He explained that, unlike in the past, musicians today are expected to constantly engage audiences and remain visible across digital channels. This shift means artists must develop influencer-like traits to remain relevant and gain traction. Social Media Presence Now Plays a Major Role Joeboy noted that social media has dramatically reshaped how music gains popularity. Today, musicians must actively promote their songs online and consistently interact with fans across multiple platforms. He pointed out that many successful songs now gain attention through viral social media trends rather than traditional promotion methods alone. Because of this change, artists must now combine music talent with digital marketing skills, personal branding, and audience engagement strategies. The Industry Was Different a Few Years Ago Reflecting on earlier years in the Nigerian music industry, Joeboy explained that success used to depend largely on the quality of music, strong branding, and effective marketing. In those days, having a good song backed by the right promotional strategy significantly increased an artist’s chances of gaining recognition. However, the industry has evolved, and the pathway to success now involves more layers of visibility and personality-driven engagement. Joeboy’s Advice to Upcoming Musicians Despite the increased difficulty, Joeboy encouraged aspiring musicians to leverage social media opportunities to their advantage. He specifically advised upcoming artistes to take advantage of platforms such as TikTok to promote their songs and connect with wider audiences. Short-form video platforms have become powerful discovery tools for music, often helping unknown artists reach millions of listeners within a short period. For many upcoming musicians, strategic use of digital platforms may serve as the gateway to building a fanbase and eventually breaking into the mainstream music scene.
Popular Nigerian actress Doris Ogala has strongly reacted to recent remarks made by Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Grace Nation International Ministry. The reaction came shortly after the cleric publicly referred to the actress as “Jezebel” in a newly circulated video. Pastor Okafor made the statement while addressing a previous apology he had reportedly offered to the actress. The apology had been linked to allegations that he ended a long-standing relationship with her before eventually marrying another woman. During his recent clarification, the preacher explained why he had earlier knelt publicly to ask for forgiveness. According to him, the act was done out of respect for senior church leaders and the Christian community, not because he had wronged the actress. In his words, he stated: “Let it be known, I knelt down because of those fathers of faith and the church. Not because of any Jezebel anywhere. No, God forbid.” However, the statement immediately triggered a reaction from Doris Ogala. Actress Responds Strongly on Social Media Following the development, the Nollywood actress took to her Instagram page to express her anger over the comment. In her post, she warned the pastor that he had underestimated her and promised to show him what she described as the “real meaning” of the name he used against her. She wrote: “Na me u Call jezzibel Abi. U don’t know who jazibel be. Because I was pitying u. I will show you what jazibel Dey do.” The actress also posted a video message addressing the pastor directly, where she questioned the sincerity of his earlier apology and accused him of attempting to dismiss the issue. Ogala Insists Apology Was Not Enough Speaking further in the video shared on her page, Doris Ogala insisted that the earlier public apology was not sufficient. She stated: “Chris, maybe you think this thing is a joke, do you think I care about your apology? I said you will crawl and apologize to me, you think I’m joking. That one you kneel down to do at your church is not enough. I said you will crawl, you will lay down and crawl on the floor and beg me.” The actress also referenced court documentation which she claimed contained an admission that they had previously been involved in a relationship. According to her: “You call me Jezebel, I will teach you what Jezebel do. You earlier admitted in a court paper that we actually dated. I’m glad that God is actually exposing you. I want you guys to see the pastor who preach in the church.” She continued by criticizing the preacher’s change in position, saying: “A pastor who came out and apologized. Pride got into him again and he came back to say he’s not sorry, he’s not apologetic.” Allegations of Attempt to Spread the Video Ogala also mentioned an individual identified as Kaci in her remarks, claiming that despite earlier statements suggesting uncertainty about the origin of the video, efforts were being made to push it into wider circulation. She said: “Shebi you boy Kaci said he did not know where that video came out but yet you’re pushing it to go viral. Do you think this person cares about anything anymore?” The actress ended her remarks with a statement suggesting she had reached a point where the controversy no longer affected her emotionally. “In case you guys don’t know, nothing makes sense to me anymore.” The exchange between the actress and the cleric has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many social media users debating the unfolding dispute.
A popular social media figure and comedian, Aderombi Adedayo, widely known as Dee One and a former participant of the Big Brother Naija reality show, has revealed that he has been invited by the Nigeria Police Force for what has been described as a routine interview. The invitation was issued by the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force. Dee One made this information public through a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, where he openly read the contents of the official invitation letter addressed to him. According to the details contained in the letter, which was signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, the interview forms part of an ongoing inquiry. The document specifically described the meeting as a fact-finding engagement, indicating that it is meant to gather information rather than serve as a formal accusation. The letter further instructed Dee One to present himself at the FID Annex Office in Lagos, and stated that the engagement would be handled through the OCCIOS team. Responding publicly to the development, Dee One stated that he believes the police invitation may be connected to a video he recently shared online. The video, according to him, generated widespread reactions and prompted numerous phone calls from different individuals offering varying opinions. He explained that reactions to the video have been mixed, with some people expressing support while others criticized his statements. Despite the differing viewpoints, Dee One maintained that he does not regret sharing the video and insisted that he acted within his rights. The comedian emphasized that if the police invitation is indeed related to the content of the video, he would not issue an apology. He described his comments as personal opinions expressed in his capacity as a Nigerian citizen. While explaining his position, Dee One referenced an incident that reportedly occurred in Turkey involving Nigeria’s President, which prompted him to share his thoughts publicly. He stated that his intention was to express his perspective as an ordinary citizen observing national issues. He also revealed that some individuals accused him of cyberbullying and questioned his decision to mention the President’s family or comment on matters related to the Presidency. However, he reiterated that expressing personal opinions should not be considered wrongdoing. In addressing the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Dee One assured him and the Nigerian public that he would fully cooperate with the authorities. He confirmed that he plans to honour the invitation and report to the police office as scheduled on Monday. Dee One concluded by stating that he would continue to keep Nigerians informed about any new developments surrounding the invitation and the outcome of the interview.

Her remarks reflect a growing conversation among public figures about prioritizing emotional values and inner qualities over material success when it comes to marriage and long-term commitment
Urmi Bhattacheryya and Aditya Prakash take legal action against alleged racial discrimination A seemingly minor campus incident over reheating a meal in a microwave escalated into a significant civil rights case, resulting in two Indian students securing a $200,000 settlement from a major U.S. university. Aditya Prakash and his fiancée, Urmi Bhattacheryya, shared with the BBC that they had filed a civil rights lawsuit against the University of Colorado, Boulder, after experiencing a series of “microaggressions and retaliatory actions” following a dispute about microwaving a traditional Indian dish. The legal complaint stated that the harassment began when a university staff member objected to Prakash warming his lunch—palak paneer, a northern Indian dish made from pureed spinach and paneer, the Indian equivalent of cottage cheese—due to the aroma it produced. This incident sparked a chain of discriminatory behavior, prompting the couple to take formal legal action. In response to media inquiries, the University of Colorado stated it could not comment on the “specific circumstances” surrounding the students’ claims due to privacy regulations. However, it emphasized its commitment to “fostering an inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff regardless of national origin, religion, culture, and other categories protected under U.S. law and university policies.” “When these allegations were reported in 2023, we treated them with utmost seriousness and followed established, comprehensive procedures to investigate and address them, as we do with all claims of discrimination and harassment. We reached a settlement with the students in September 2025 and deny any liability in this case,” the university added. For Prakash and Bhattacheryya, the lawsuit was never about financial gain. “Our goal was to highlight that there are consequences for discriminating against Indians for their cultural identity and food habits,” Prakash explained. The case has garnered extensive media attention in India since first being reported last week. It has sparked discussions on what many are calling “food racism”, highlighting how individuals from Indian and other ethnic backgrounds often face bias and ridicule for their culinary traditions abroad. Many Indians on social media have recounted their own experiences of facing discrimination over their food choices while living in Western countries. However, observers note that such discrimination is not exclusive to Indians. In India itself, biases around food exist, such as the banning of non-vegetarian meals in several schools and colleges, often due to perceptions of impurity or unsuitability. Communities from various regions, including Africa, Latin America, and other parts of Asia, have similarly reported feeling shamed for their dietary practices. Individuals from disadvantaged castes and north-eastern states in India, for example, often encounter prejudice based on the types of ingredients they consume, with others commenting negatively on the smell of their meals. Prakash, a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of Colorado, revealed that their ordeal began in September 2023. While reheating palak paneer in a campus microwave, a British staff member allegedly described the dish’s aroma as “pungent” and claimed there was a rule prohibiting the heating of foods with strong smells. “When I asked for clarification about which foods were considered pungent, I was told that sandwiches were acceptable while curry was not,” Prakash said. The vague and selective enforcement of the alleged rule underscored the discriminatory nature of the incident, according to the couple’s lawsuit. This landmark case has not only brought attention to the subtle and overt forms of discrimination faced by ethnic communities in educational institutions abroad but also opened up broader conversations about inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and respect for diverse food traditions.

The command confirmed that one individual is presently in custody as detectives intensify efforts to uncover the full details behind the incident. News of Destiny Boy’s death began circulating on Sunday, following the emergence of disturbing videos on social media. The footage showed the late singer’s body being conveyed to a mortuary, a development that quickly sparked grief among fans and fueled widespread speculation regarding the cause of his death. One of the viral clips captured the artiste lying motionless in the rear compartment of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in both his ears and nostrils. The images caused emotional reactions online and led to various unverified claims across social platforms. Amid the growing rumours, an individual identified as a close associate of the singer later released a separate video to clarify the situation. In the recording, the associate stated that Destiny Boy had been managing an undisclosed medical condition before his death. The associate explained that the intention behind the video was to prevent the spread of misinformation surrounding the singer’s passing. He noted that Destiny Boy had struggled with health challenges for some time and that efforts were made to support his recovery, but unfortunately, he did not survive. Destiny Boy, born Afeez Adeshina, began his musical journey at a young age and gradually carved a niche for himself by blending traditional Fuji sounds with modern musical elements. His early career took shape at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he also worked as a backup dancer for prominent Fuji musician, Pasuma. Building on that momentum, Destiny Boy went on to create Fuji-style covers of songs by well-known artistes including Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.
