The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 15 individuals in Makurdi, Benue State, over their alleged involvement in internet fraud.
Details of the Arrest
In a statement released on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter), the EFCC disclosed that its operatives from the Makurdi Zonal Directorate carried out the arrests on Abu King Shuluwe Street, Akpehe, following credible intelligence on the suspects’ activities.
During the operation, several items were confiscated, including:
- Two cars
- Five laptops
- 17 mobile phones
The EFCC confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will face prosecution once inquiries are completed.
Official Statement
The anti-graft agency stated:
“The suspects were arrested at Abu King Shuluwe Street, Akpehe, Makurdi metropolis, based on actionable intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet fraud. Items recovered include two cars, five laptops, 17 mobile phones, and others. The suspects will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.”
EFCC’s Commitment
The EFCC continues its crackdown on cybercrime across Nigeria, reiterating its resolve to combat fraud and protect citizens from the negative impacts of these illegal activities.
