Church, Buildings, And Vehicles Destroyed In Lagos Tanker Explosion At Otedola Bridge

A devastating fire outbreak occurred in Lagos yesterday evening following a fuel tanker explosion at Otedola Bridge, leaving a church, a bungalow, and several vehicles burnt.

The explosion happened at approximately 8:08 p.m. when a 30-ton DAF Gas Truck transporting petroleum products burst into flames. Witnesses stated that the tanker was navigating the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the incident happened, causing panic among road users. Many motorists were forced to abandon their vehicles or make sharp U-turns in a desperate attempt to escape the raging inferno.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire spread rapidly, affecting a church and multiple buildings nearby. Margaret Adeseye, Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, stated that emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to contain the situation.

In response, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), and the state’s fire service worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames and prevent further destruction.

Speaking on the situation, Margaret Adeseye reassured the public that emergency teams were handling the fire outbreak and confirmed that, so far, there were no reported casualties. “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is actively managing the tanker fire at Otedola Bridge, Omole. Firefighting operations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided.”

Meanwhile, Boss Okunbo, Head of Public Affairs at LASEMA, described the incident as a significant explosion but stated that investigations were underway to determine the full extent of the damage.

Residents and motorists have been advised to avoid the area while responders work to completely put out the fire and restore normalcy.
