Buhari Commends Fayemi’s Legacy as He Turns 60
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has extended warm birthday wishes to Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State, recognizing him as a distinguished statesman and visionary leader on his 60th birthday.
In a statement released in January 2025, Buhari reflected on Fayemi’s immense contributions to Nigeria’s political evolution and his pivotal role in strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC). He credited Fayemi for being instrumental in uniting various political factions, a key factor that led to the APC’s groundbreaking victory in the 2015 elections.
Buhari lauded Fayemi’s efforts in shaping national policies and championing democratic principles. He highlighted Fayemi’s tenure as Director of Policy during the 2015 presidential campaign and his active participation in the pro-democracy struggle through NADECO and other advocacy platforms.

Buhari also reflected on Fayemi’s resilience in the face of political challenges. Despite the setback, Fayemi remained engaged with the people, refining his political strategies, and successfully reclaiming the governorship seat in 2018.
“Many would have faltered, but Fayemi’s unwavering determination set him apart,” Buhari added.
Describing Fayemi as a trusted political ally, an effective minister, and a forward-thinking governor, Buhari emphasized that his dedication to governance continues to inspire Nigerians.
“I am proud of my long-standing association with Governor Fayemi. May God bless him with good health and many more years of impactful service,” Buhari concluded.
