In a conversation with Vanguard, Dr. Tanko explained that leaders and members of the Obidient Movement, who had actively supported Obi’s presidential campaign in 2023, were already in Enugu, the South-East zonal capital, in preparation for the defection. He emphasized that Obi had maintained ties with the ADC coalition prior to this event, and today’s gathering aims to chart a clear path forward for his numerous supporters nationwide. When asked why Enugu was chosen over Awka, Anambra State, as the defection venue, Dr. Tanko remarked: “Enugu is the historical capital of the East, providing historical and political significance when the region wants to make a statement.” He further added: “The event today is intended for Mr. Obi to outline the way forward for his large base of supporters across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections. Leaders and members of the Obidient Movement are present in full strength to show their support.
