But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9 NET).  In the book of Acts, Luke reports how Peter and John healed a man who had been lame from birth. As a result, Peter and John were arrested and brought before the Sanhedrin (the Jewish council). During their interrogation, Peter boldly spoke about Jesus and the power of His Name.The Sanhedrin observed Peter and John’s courage and their profound understanding of divine realities, despite their lack of formal education (Acts 4:13). They saw in Peter and John the display of the excellence and perfection of Christ. It’s no surprise that the same Peter, by the Spirit, would write in 1 Peter 2:9, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”This is very significant as the term “show forth” translates from the Greek “exaggellō,” which means to display. Think about that as your calling, your assignment; it’s to display the excellence and perfection of divinity. The King James Version uses the term ”praises” but that doesn’t fully convey the meaning. The best word for it is a combination of excellence and perfection.So, when it says you should show forth the praises of Him, it means you’re to display the excellencies and perfections of the one who called you out of darkness. The AMPC renders it a bit more accurately: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.”Every day is an opportunity for you to fulfil this unique calling, to display the wonders, glory, perfections, love, grace, mercy and righteousness of Christ to the world. I embrace my unique calling to display your virtues, perfection, love, grace, mercy and righteousness to the world. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12). What we just read are some of the most extraordinary words from the lips of the Master. He said those who believe in Him, not only will they do the same works that He did, but they’ll do greater works. This is only possible because Jesus has ascended to the Father, and through the Holy Spirit, His work continues through us. Recall what the Scripture says in lsaiah 53:10, “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.” This verse speaks prophetically of the Church, the body of Christ, as the seed of Jesus Christ. It tells us that after His vicarious sacrifice, the Lord Jesus will see His seed—the Church—and we shall prolong His days. Hallelujah! That’s what’s going on; Jesus multiplies Himself through the Church today; He continues His mission through us. In Acts 1:1, Luke writes to Theophilus about “…all that Jesus began both to do and teach.” The key word here is “began”; Jesus started the work, but we continue it. We are the extension of His ministry, teaching, impacting and transforming lives as He did. The same Spirit that anointed Jesus for His work resides in us, enabling us to continue and expand upon what He started. Through the Holy Spirit, we’re empowered to reach more people and impact more lives for the Kingdom of God. Acts 1:8 says, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” The Church is the extension of Christ on earth, living in His power and authority, fulfilling His mission. This is a calling of great honour and responsibility. We’re His hands, His feet, and His voice in this world, carrying out the will of the Father just as Jesus did. PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the privilege of being a part of the body of Christ. I’m forever grateful that through the Holy Spirit, I’m empowered to do your will and establish your righteousness. I walk in this calling with boldness and faith, knowing that my life glorifies you. His comments come amid growing opposition from legal professionals and residents against the ongoing demolitions by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), which are targeting “illegal structures” in the Sabon-Lugbe South District and other areas, following Wike’s order on October 22, 2024. He argued that legal avenues should be fully explored before any demolition orders are carried out. “Due process must be followed. Wike should have gone to the tribunal and awaited its decision. A truck transporting gas cylinders exploded in the Magama community of Jibia Local Government Area in Katsina State on Friday, injuring many people and causing significant damage to nearby vehicles and buildings. According to sources, the explosion occurred at the ‘Walidan’ filling station, where products believed to have been smuggled from Niger Republic were stored. Aliyu Muhammad, a local resident, explained that the truck had been parked at the station for several days before the explosion. “Seven vehicles were destroyed, and two houses, including the one housing the filling station, were damaged,” Muhammad said, adding that numerous people were injured in the blast. The incident was confirmed by Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, who stated that the explosion occurred at around 8:45 AM on November 15, 2024. Police officers stationed at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters heard the loud blast and responded quickly, with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and military personnel rushing to the scene. Upon arrival, the authorities found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at the Tamal filling station along the Kagadama–Magamar Jibia road.
