The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has successfully rescued eight injured passengers following an accident at Hammadiya, heading toward Abule-Egba. LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the rescue operation in a statement shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday. The statement was issued by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo. Details of the Accident The traffic incident occurred when a commercial long bus, known locally as a ‘Molue,’ lost control at high speed on Hammadiya Road. The accident caused significant injuries to passengers and disrupted traffic flow. Bakare-Oki explained that the accident happened when the vehicle, registered as KTU 801 XM, swerved sharply to avoid colliding with another commercial bus and pedestrians standing by the roadside. This maneuver caused the bus to crash into the expressway median and overturn. While some passengers managed to escape through the bus windows, others sustained injuries of varying severity. Among the injured was the bus driver, who suffered a fractured arm. Efficient Rescue and Medical Assistance LASTMA’s rescue team quickly arrived at the scene and carried out a well-coordinated operation. The injured passengers, including five males and three females, were promptly attended to. The bus driver was also included in the group of casualties. All injured individuals were immediately handed over to LASAMBUS personnel, who transported them to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo for urgent medical care. Traffic Management and Public Safety To ensure a smooth flow of traffic and public safety, LASTMA’s Response Unit was deployed to clear the overturned vehicle. Security support was provided by officers from the Meran Police Division, allowing the rescue operation to proceed without any interruptions. Bakare-Oki expressed his sympathy for the injured passengers and wished them a swift recovery. He also emphasized the importance of following traffic regulations, particularly speed limits set by the Lagos State Government, to prevent similar incidents. Preventative Measures and Safety Awareness In his statement, Bakare-Oki urged both commercial and private vehicle operators to prioritize regular vehicle maintenance, especially key systems like brakes, to avoid preventable accidents. “This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of LASTMA’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring safety on Lagos roads through proactive measures and cooperation with emergency response agencies,” he concluded. Recent reports have revealed how operatives from Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) successfully eliminated numerous bandits and militants affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB). These militants were attempting to terrorize vulnerable communities in both the north-central and southeastern regions of Nigeria. According to a top security source, the militants met their end in a bid to wreak havoc across these regions. The operation was carried out after DSS operatives received credible intelligence, enabling them to launch a targeted assault on heavily armed bandits on motorcycles who were looting shops in the Rafi Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State. During the operation, several bandits were neutralized, and their weapons and motorcycles were seized by DSS operatives. This action followed a similar successful mission in Mairiga LGA, where three bandits were eliminated just a week prior. In addition to this, DSS operatives have been actively tackling banditry in other parts of the country. Earlier in December, they raided multiple locations, including Gusau, Gusau-Kaura Namoda Road in Zamfara State, Dalori quarters in Maiduguri, Borno State, and arrested several bandits wreaking havoc in the Northeast and Northwest. A high-ranking source shared that the DSS’s recent offensive disrupted a planned bandit meeting in Niger State. The militants had gathered in Uregi Village, Rafi LGA, intending to launch a large-scale attack on nearby communities, but the DSS’s preemptive strike thwarted their plans. One key factor behind the recent improvements in security, particularly during the Christmas season, has been covert operations carried out by the DSS. The source also commended the newly appointed leadership of the DSS for strengthening collaborations with other security agencies, particularly the military. This new synergy has led to faster intelligence sharing and a more unified approach to tackling national security challenges. The source noted, “Before Christmas, the DSS identified multiple IPoB and Eastern Security Network (ESN) camps scattered across various southeastern states. Working in close collaboration, we targeted and neutralized IPoB/ESN leaders terrorizing the region.” Notably, several operations were conducted in Imo State, including Orsu, Oru East, Oru West, and Orlu LGAs. These efforts led to the destruction of multiple AK-47 rifles, improvised explosive devices (IED) production materials, and militant shrines. The DSS also led operations in Enugu, specifically in Udenu LGA’s Imilike Agu forest, where various weapons were destroyed, and several IPoB/ESN commanders were neutralized. Similar successful operations were carried out in Abia, Anambra, and Ebonyi States. Thanks to these efforts, southeastern residents were able to celebrate the Yuletide season in peace for the first time in years. Someone asked the question: “How powerful are curses or blessings spoken by parents over their children?” Such curses or blessings, according to the Bible, have impactful implications; they could be quite powerful. When you study the Bible, you’d find blessings by parents and curses by parents and how they came to pass. Being born again, it’s important to understand that we’re called into a life of blessings by God. We were called to inherit a blessing (1 Peter 3:9). If, however, you had a problem with your parents before you were born again and they pronounced a curse on you, now that you’re born again, that curse will no longer have any effect. You should nevertheless go and reconcile with them. That’s important. If reconciliation is impossible or difficult, consult your pastor. Your pastor can counsel you and guide you on what to do next. If you were already born again and then your parent cursed you, generally, that curse will not work. However, if your actions were contrary to the Word of God, you could face real trouble. This is because being outside the Word of God places you in a vulnerable position where such a curse could have an effect on you. Remember the lsraelites in Egypt: when the death angel was to come into Egypt, God instructed them to mark their doorposts with blood. This marked them out from the Egyptians, protecting them from harm. Similarly, staying within the Word of God and functioning according to God’s principles keeps you protected. If you live outside the Word, you open yourself to potential danger; you break the hedge as it were. And the Bible says, “…whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him” (Ecclesiastes 10:8). God wants us to live in peace, for He has called us to peace, especially with our parents. The Bible teaches us to honour our parents as stated in Ephesians 6:1-3, which is a quote from Exodus 20:12 and Deuteronomy 5:16. This commandment comes with a promise: that it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth. Christian parents should also never curse their children but bless them.
