The forfeited assets were recovered under the U.S. Department of Justice’s Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative, aimed at retrieving funds obtained through corruption and financial misconduct. The repatriated assets, confiscated through court proceedings that concluded in 2023, include high-value items such as the luxury yacht Galactica Star and prime properties located in California and New York. These assets were reportedly acquired with laundered funds linked to bribery and corruption involving Nigeria’s former Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke. Nigerian authorities played a crucial role in assisting U.S. investigators during the asset recovery process. Recent data indicates that electricity generation plummeted from 2,111.01 megawatts at 2:00 pm to a mere 390.20 megawatts by 3:00 pm on Saturday. The Energy Podcast verified the event, posting, “National grid suffers major collapse… First in 2025.” However, partial power restoration efforts were reported shortly after, with another update stating, “Restoration has begun… Currently generating 302MW as of 02:40 pm.” In a related event from November 2024, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disclosed that the national grid faced a partial disruption due to multiple generator and line trippings, which destabilized the grid. This information was shared by TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah. Mbah clarified that data from the National Control Centre (NCC) revealed some parts of the grid remained unaffected by the disruption. Two men tragically lost their lives after falling into a diesel reservoir in the Oregun area of Lagos State. The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident through an official statement issued on Saturday. The accident occurred along Ikosi-Oregun Road, Lagos. Oke-Osanyintolu reported that the emergency response team was dispatched immediately after distress calls were received through the emergency toll-free lines 767 and 112 at 10:37 a.m. The LASEMA team arrived at the scene by 10:47 a.m. to discover two adult males submerged in the diesel reservoir. Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the victims accidentally fell into the reservoir while working. The second man, in a heroic attempt to rescue the first, also fell into the diesel tank. Both victims were in critical condition and were promptly transported to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) after receiving first aid treatment.
