Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. {Acts 20:28 } If you’re a leader in God’s Kingdom, you must first understand that you’re an overseer, entrusted with the responsibility to take care of God’s children, the souls for whom Christ died. The Bible says, “Tend (nurture, guard, guide, and fold) the flock of God that is [your responsibility], not by coercion or constraint, but willingly…Not domineering [as arrogant, dictatorial, and overbearing persons] over those in your charge, but being examples (patterns and models of Christian living) to the flock (the congregation)” (1 Peter 5:2-3 AMPC). It doesn’t matter if the people are many or few; the responsibility is the same. Don’t let any one of them backslide! Intercede for them; pray about their needs and the challenges they might be going through. It’s important to have a prayer diary where you write out their names, calling each one by name as you contend for their souls in prayer. Pray passionately that every resistance to their spiritual growth and progress is broken and their desire for the things of the Spirit is fanned aflame and sustained as they grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ. You have the privilege and responsibility to stand in the gap for others. You’re the priest over them; you’ve been given the office to minister and pray, and God will hear you. Perhaps you’re a cell leader, a church pastor, a coordinator, etc., when your members face challenges, go into intercession on their behalf. As their leader, you’re responsible for their spiritual growth. Help them; teach, and guide them in the things of God. As you teach train, and share the love of God with them, you’ll see them grow. This will become your joy because every time you witness the Word of God producing results in their lives, it excites you. And at the end, that’s what you’ll present to God, souls—those whose lives you’ve impacted and helped to transform. Hallelujah! PRAYER: Dear Father, thank you for making me an overseer of your flock. I have the grace to care for each soul under my charge, interceding for them with passion and fervency. I declare that they are strengthened, built up in the Word, growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The life of Christ in me makes me superhuman! By virtue of the divine life of Christ in me, every cell of my blood, every bone of my body, and every organ in me is invigorated; no infirmity can fasten itself to my body, and all things are possible unto me. I have passed from death to life, from sin to righteousness, and from sickness to health. I live above the limitations of the human body and the physical realm through the ability of God’s Spirit. Health, peace, joy, and the glorious life are my present-hour inheritance. I am a king and my words are full of power and authority; therefore I live a life of victory, success, divine health, abundance, excellence, and glory. I am not a victim but a victor. God’s Word is producing what it talks about in my life. I am strengthened with divine enablement in my inner man by the Holy Ghost. I am making progress, rising like an edifice higher and higher irrespective of daunting challenges, persecutions, hardships, and troubles around the nations of the world. When the challenges of life cast men down, my testimony will forever be that there’s a lifting up for me. I have the life of God in every fibre of my being. By LMSINT MEDIA The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has highlighted the significant reduction in tension in Nigeria’s South-East region following the arrest of Simon Ekpa in Finland. This development, combined with the Defence Headquarters’ Operation Udoka, is fostering peace and stability in the area. Operation Udoka and Restoring Peace Operation Udoka was specifically launched to combat banditry and address the “sit-at-home” protests that disrupted life in the South-East. General Musa revealed this progress during his presentation before the House of Representatives Committee on Defence to defend the 2025 budget. He stated, “With the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the tension has significantly reduced. Through Operation Udoka, we’ve identified and removed key figures contributing to the unrest, allowing normalcy to return to the region. The sit-at-home culture on Mondays is gradually fading.” The General also emphasized collaboration with local political and community leaders, noting that the challenging terrain in the region requires coordinated efforts for sustainable peace. Proactive Measures Yield Positive Results General Musa praised proactive intelligence and non-kinetic strategies for the peaceful holiday season in the South-East. He stated, “We worked ahead using intelligence to ensure peace, and the results are evident. By encouraging synergy across our operations and appealing for public ownership of security challenges, we’re seeing remarkable improvements.” Human intelligence has been instrumental, with citizens increasingly providing actionable information. This cooperation has bolstered security operations across Nigeria. Other Security Operations: Delta Safe and Beyond In addition to South-East interventions, General Musa highlighted the success of Operation Delta Safe, targeting oil theft and militancy in the South-South region. For the first time in years, Nigeria has achieved its OPEC oil production quota. The military aims to further increase daily oil production to 2.2 million barrels by working alongside stakeholders in the oil sector. Community Engagement and Non-Kinetic Solutions The Defence Headquarters has prioritized engaging with religious, cultural, and community leaders to build trust and cooperation. General Musa explained, “Our discussions with local leaders have significantly eased tensions. The best outcome is solving problems without firing a single shot. By balancing kinetic and non-kinetic measures, we’re achieving sustainable peace.” Tackling Border Challenges and Trafficking General Musa also discussed the military’s efforts to combat smuggling, human trafficking, and drug trade. He stated, “We’ve rescued numerous trafficked children and intercepted small arms and drugs. Collaboration with Customs, NDLEA, and other agencies ensures these cases are appropriately handled.” Welfare of Troops and the Need for Improved Infrastructure While commending recent salary increases for junior personnel, General Musa expressed concerns about the welfare of troops, including inadequate Ration Cash Allowance (RCA) and the need for better housing. “With over 25,000 recruits annually and fewer retirements, there’s an urgent need for new barracks and renovations to existing ones,” he said. Local Manufacturing of Weapons The Chief of Defence Staff stressed the importance of boosting local production of weapons. He cited the challenges of importing military equipment, exacerbated by the global demand stemming from conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war. “With the DICON bill signed by Mr. President, we’re encouraging local manufacturers to produce military equipment in Nigeria. This will reduce reliance on foreign imports and enhance our defense capabilities.” Conclusion: A Call for National Support General Musa reiterated the importance of peace for national development. He called on all Nigerians to support the armed forces and take ownership of security challenges. “Without peace, there can be no progress. The Story of Wisdom Chukwuemeka Wisdom Chukwuemeka, a 29-year-old iron bender from Imo State, is one of the ten individuals rescued from suspected human traffickers in Babura Local Government Area, Jigawa State. Chukwu, like many others, blames Nigeria’s tough economic situation and lack of viable job opportunities for his decision to embark on the deadly journey through the Sahara Desert and Mediterranean Sea. During a press briefing at the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Dutse, Jigawa, the State NIS Comptroller, Tahir Abdullahi, revealed that the victims—comprising eight females and two males aged between 21 and 30—were intercepted during “Operation Salama.” Details of the Rescue Operation The rescued individuals, hailing from Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Imo States, were en route to Europe through illegal migration channels. Investigations revealed that the victims were being trafficked from various locations to Kano, then onward to Babura, with plans to cross into Niger Republic, Libya, and eventually Europe. Some of the rescued individuals included: The Comptroller of the NIS, Kemi Randap, alongside the Jigawa State Government, pledged continued efforts to combat irregular migration in the region. The Role of Human Trafficking Networks The victims admitted to being influenced by promises of a better life in Europe. Chukwu, in particular, revealed that a friend who had already migrated encouraged him to take the risk, despite the inherent dangers. When asked if he understood the risks, Chukwu stated, “Everything in life is about risk-taking. If you don’t take risks, you can’t succeed. I’m willing to take the risk again if given another chance.” The Rising Concern Over Illegal Migration Officials from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) emphasized the need for parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s activities. Mohammed Yunusa, NAPTIP’s Head of Operations in Jigawa, applauded the collaboration between the agency and the NIS, expressing hope for the eradication of human trafficking in the state. Economic Hardship: A Key Driver of Illegal Migration The harsh economic realities in Nigeria, including widespread unemployment and underemployment, are key factors driving illegal migration.
