Man City’s Title Hopes Crushed After a Devastating 5-1 Loss to Arsenal Manchester City’s hopes of defending their Premier League title took a massive hit after a crushing 5-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Defender John Stones publicly apologized to fans, expressing disappointment over the team’s shocking second-half performance. Man City’s Equalizer Quickly Undone City managed to level the score early in the second half, with Erling Haaland canceling out Martin Ødegaard’s opening goal in the second minute. However, their momentum was short-lived as Arsenal struck back almost immediately. Just 105 seconds after the equalizer, Thomas Partey’s shot took an unfortunate deflection off Stones, putting Arsenal back in the lead. From that moment, the floodgates opened. Arsenal’s Dominance in the Final Half-Hour Arsenal completely dominated the rest of the match, adding three more goals through Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz, and Ethan Nwaneri. The win gave the Gunners a measure of revenge after missing out on the title to City for the past two seasons. Speaking after the match, Stones did not hold back his frustration. “I’m angry, upset—both personally and collectively—about how the game ended,” he said.“None of us take losing well. It’s hard to put into words right after the game.Sorry to the fans. Traveling all this way to watch us perform like that in the last 30 minutes is unacceptable.” City’s Premier League Hopes in Ruins The defeat marks Man City’s seventh loss of the season, leaving them 15 points behind the league leaders and effectively ending their chances of securing a record fifth consecutive Premier League title. With the season nearing its conclusion, Pep Guardiola’s men will need to regroup and focus on finishing strong in other competitions. A recent report alleging that President Bola Tinubu ordered the reinstatement of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has been dismissed as false information. Lawmakers have condemned the claim, emphasizing that it is a ploy to distract the newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda. Fact-Checking the Alleged Presidential Directive An online report that went viral on Sunday suggested that President Tinubu pressured Lagos lawmakers to reinstate Obasa three weeks after his removal. According to the claims, Tinubu argued that the political consequences of Obasa’s ousting could outweigh any punitive measures taken against him for corruption and abuse of office. A supposed senior Lagos politician was quoted as saying: “The president has sent instructions for us to start preparing for Obasa’s return. He will only serve a short time before stepping down on his terms.” However, this claim has been met with strong opposition from lawmakers who insist that Obasa’s return would be problematic for those involved in his removal. Lawmakers Stand Firm Against Obasa’s Return Since his removal on January 13, Obasa has allegedly been making several attempts to regain his position. His ousting was backed by 32 out of 40 Assembly members, citing reasons such as misconduct, financial misappropriation, and breach of public trust. A lawmaker, speaking anonymously, rejected the report, stating: “This is nothing but fake news. The newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has met with President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and past Assembly members from the 1st to the 9th Assembly. Numerous courtesy visits and endorsements have further validated her election.” The spread of this misinformation has raised concerns among political analysts and citizens, with many questioning whether Obasa is being protected by higher powers or if these reports are mere attempts to salvage his lost political standing. Meranda’s Focus on Leadership Despite the controversy, Speaker Mojisola Lasbat Meranda remains undeterred. An aide close to Meranda, who requested anonymity, stated: “The Speaker is focused on her responsibilities and will not be distracted by baseless speculations meant to stir confusion.” Conclusion Lagos lawmakers have reaffirmed their support for the leadership of Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, dismissing claims of Obasa’s reinstatement as unfounded. As the Assembly moves forward under new leadership, political observers remain watchful of any further developments. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar (1 Kings 3:4). In 1 Kings 3, when Solomon became king of Israel, he was deeply troubled. He knew he was not the firstborn son, and his mother, Bathsheba, was not the first wife of his father, David. Solomon understood that his position as king would bring challenges because he had older brothers who despised both him and his mother. For example, when you study the accounts in 1 Kings 2, Solomon’s older brother Adonijah attempted to usurp the throne, and Solomon later ordered the execution of Adonijah, Joab, and Shimei to secure his reign. These show the violent and unstable environment in which Solomon ascended the throne. So, despite being king, he faced several threats to his life and position. He knew he had to do something beyond the ordinary to secure his reign and separate himself from the danger around him. What did Solomon do? He offered an extraordinary sacrifice to God. 1 Kings 3:4 says, “And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.”*_ Solomon was determined to put everything on the line in his worship to God. Today, we can learn from what Solomon did. It’s one of the ways to move forward and establish yourself where God has placed you. Moment of worship: *PRAYER* *Dear Father, thank you for the opportunity to give into your Kingdom. I refuse to be subject to the limitations of this world, for Christ is my riddance as well as my advantage. Shocking Revelation as Wife of Wanted Chadian Terrorist Speaks Out A woman has come forward with a startling revelation about her husband, Ahmad Adam Abba, a suspected Chadian terrorist, claiming she was unaware of his criminal activities throughout their marriage. The Kano State Police Command recently paraded her alongside two of her husband’s associates at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano. She explained that she had always believed her husband was a legitimate trader until suspicious incidents led her to question his true identity. Suspicious Encounters That Raised Red Flags According to the woman, the first sign of trouble emerged when her husband faced an issue with the Nigerian Immigration Service while trying to renew his passport. However, it wasn’t until he returned home late at night carrying large sums of Chadian currency that her suspicions deepened. She also recalled how her husband frequently held secret meetings at his elder brother’s house, Bushara, never involving her or disclosing any details. The Moment of Realization Her fears were confirmed when authorities declared her husband wanted. She recounted an incident where he suddenly rushed into their home, collected some documents and money, and left in a hurry, promising to call her later—only to disappear completely. “I had no idea what was happening until strange events started unfolding. He was arrested alongside some men while trying to renew their passports, and later, news emerged that they were involved in killings. I was in the dark the entire time,” she said. The woman described how she discovered bundles of Chadian currency in a sack given to her by her husband. Shortly after, she noticed unknown men visiting their home, having breakfast together before stepping outside to engage in secret conversations. “My husband returned later and collected the money he had left with me. That was when an Almajiri boy working in our house informed me that something strange was happening at Bushara’s residence. He said my husband’s associates were seen running away,” she narrated. Later that day, she saw her husband rush into their home to grab more cash and important documents. As he left, she followed him to the gate, and he reassured her he would call—but she never heard from him again. A Warning to Parents About Marriage Decisions Reflecting on her experience, the woman urged parents to conduct thorough background checks before allowing their daughters to marry. “I suffered two miscarriages during our time together. My advice to parents is to properly investigate anyone seeking their daughter’s hand in marriage, whether the suitor is from a neighboring town or a distant place,” she warned. Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the ex-depot (gantry) price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from N950 to N890. This new price is effective from Saturday, February 1, 2025. In a statement issued on Saturday, the company attributed this price cut to the favorable trends in global energy and gas markets, as well as the recent drop in international crude oil prices. The Impact of the Price Reduction Anthony Chiejina, a spokesperson for Dangote Refinery, emphasized that the price revision reflects the refinery’s dedication to transparency and fairness. This adjustment follows the statement made on January 19, when a modest increase in prices was implemented in response to rising international crude oil prices. Chiejina noted that the price reduction from N950 to N890 is expected to significantly lower petrol costs nationwide, which would, in turn, reduce the prices of goods and services. This would have a beneficial ripple effect across various sectors of the Nigerian economy, contributing to a reduction in the overall cost of living. Furthermore, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has urged marketers to join in this initiative to ensure that the reduced prices benefit the Nigerian people. Chiejina also highlighted that this effort aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader economic recovery plan, which focuses on achieving self-sufficiency in refined petroleum products and positioning Nigeria as a leading oil export hub.
