Sound coding is the assignment of meaning, interpretation, and communication of sound or the cognitive process for the creation of sound. For example, if I say “Haha” and tell you it means “stop,” only you, who received that instruction, will understand what “Haha” means. Others who don’t know the code will not comprehend its meaning. Sound coding, therefore, is the process of embedding instructions, meaning and information into sound waves. When you’re teaching a child a language, for example, you’re encoding sound into that child by talking to the child; you’re transmitting something into that child’s memory.
