The Nasarawa State Police Command has taken into custody Fatima Salisu, a 21-year-old woman accused of illegally trafficking ammunition across state boundaries.

Her arrest took place in the Azuba district of Lafia, after a tactical security operation was carried out using credible intelligence from informants and surveillance teams.

Fatima, who hails from Funtua in Katsina State, was reportedly transporting a large quantity of ammunition through Keana and Doma Local Government Areas. According to reports, she was allegedly heading toward criminal organizations in Katsina State to deliver the consignment.

Acting on verified intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima J. Mohammed, instructed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command to carry out an immediate interception of the suspect.

The mission resulted in the successful recovery of 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition and an additional 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition from the suspect’s possession.

In a statement released early Thursday, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest.

He stated, “The suspect is currently being held in custody and is undergoing rigorous questioning. The investigation is ongoing to trace the entire arms trafficking network and determine any affiliations with bandit groups or terrorist cells.”

SP Nansel emphasized that the operation is a vital milestone in combating the illegal arms trade and assured the public of the Command’s unwavering resolve to maintain peace and security within Nasarawa State.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has appealed to the general public to remain observant and to collaborate with security agencies by providing timely and accurate information that can assist in combating crime effectively.
