2026 WCQ: Super Eagles' Tactical Approach In Rwanda Victory

Super Eagles’ head coach, Eric Chelle, has commended his players for their dedication and flexibility in their recent triumph over Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Chelle marked his debut with a solid victory, as Nigeria secured a 2-0 win against the Amavubi in the matchday five fixture at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium on Friday. The Super Eagles tactician initially deployed a 4-2-3-1 formation, ensuring a balanced approach to both attack and defense.

The midfield was anchored by Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi, while Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen led the offensive setup.

Despite the victory, Chelle acknowledged that there is still room for improvement in the team’s performance.

“This is why I am proud of my players. Congratulations to them,” the 47-year-old tactician expressed post-match.

“We must continue refining our strategies. This was our first game, and while I am happy with the win, there is still work to be done.”

He further revealed that the team experimented with multiple tactical systems throughout the game.

“We have a squad with different strengths and areas to develop. My responsibility is to assess the game and make adjustments,” Chelle explained.

“We utilized two or three tactical setups during the match, and it’s important to show our players that adaptability is key in modern football.”
