The Niger State Police Command has detained an 18-year-old suspect, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, for the brutal murder of Adamu Jagaba, a retired permanent secretary in the Ministry of Environment. The suspect, a car painter, was apprehended on Sunday, December 8, 2024, after being found with the stolen vehicle.
Details of the Crime
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wasiu Abiodun, stated that Abdulhakeem confessed to the crime, revealing he had conspired with some of Jagaba’s employees who provided critical details about the victim’s routine.
According to the PPRO:
- Jagaba invited Abdulhakeem to inspect his Toyota Camry for repairs at his block-molding business in Minna.
- While at the office, Abdulhakeem attacked Jagaba, stabbing him multiple times in the head and neck.
- The suspect also struck the victim with a stapler before fleeing with the Toyota Camry.
How the Suspect Was Arrested
The police issued a statewide alert to track the stolen vehicle. Around 7:00 p.m. on December 8, security operatives intercepted Abdulhakeem along Bosso Estate Road in Minna.
Further investigations uncovered Abdulhakeem’s collaboration with Jagaba’s workers, who are now being sought by the authorities.
Eyewitness Account
Witness Nuhu Abubakar shared that there was no sign of disagreement between the victim and the suspect before the attack. “The suspect simply entered the car and drove off, leaving Jagaba bleeding on the ground,” he said.
The Tragic Aftermath
The attack occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on December 7, 2024. Jagaba was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Jagaba had retired from public service in the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and was managing a block-molding business in Minna. His untimely death has left the community in shock.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are continuing efforts to arrest the accomplices involved in this heinous act. The authorities have reassured the public that justice will be served.
