The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has appealed to Muslims to dedicate the final ten days of the holy month of Ramadan to sincere prayers for peace and stability across the state.
The governor made this appeal while observing the spiritual rites of the Umrah in Saudi Arabia. During his pilgrimage, he explained that he joined fellow worshippers in special supplications seeking divine intervention to restore long-term security and harmony in Borno as well as across Nigeria.
Details of the governor’s message were released in an official statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya.
Call for Unity and Spiritual Reflection
Governor Zulum emphasized that the sacred final phase of Ramadan is a period traditionally regarded by Muslims as a time when prayers are especially meaningful and spiritually rewarding. He encouraged residents to take advantage of the period to ask for Allah’s mercy, protection, and blessings.
According to the governor, the renewed assaults reportedly carried out by members of the extremist group Boko Haram should not discourage the population or weaken their determination. Instead, he urged citizens to remain resilient and united while supporting ongoing efforts aimed at ending insecurity.
Ramadan’s Final Days as a Moment for Spiritual Dedication
Speaking about the significance of the final ten days of Ramadan, Zulum highlighted the importance of devotion and reflection during this period. He encouraged Muslims to increase acts of worship, charity, and prayers for their communities.
He said believers should focus on seeking forgiveness, divine guidance, and blessings for their families, communities, and the nation.
The governor also emphasized that spiritual unity could strengthen the resolve of residents facing security challenges.
Appeal to Christians Observing Lent
In a gesture promoting interfaith solidarity, Governor Zulum extended his message beyond the Muslim community. He called on Christians observing Lent to also pray for peace, unity, and stability across Borno State.
He stressed that the state’s progress depends on the combined goodwill and cooperation of all residents regardless of religious background.
Sympathy for Victims and Families
Governor Zulum expressed deep sympathy to families who lost loved ones in recent attacks. He acknowledged the emotional and psychological toll that such incidents have placed on affected communities.
The governor reassured residents that the government remains committed to supporting those impacted by the violence while working tirelessly to restore calm across the region.
Continued Support for Security Agencies
While addressing the ongoing security situation, the governor reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to collaborate closely with the military and other security institutions. He noted that the administration will continue providing necessary support to security agencies engaged in counter-insurgency operations.
According to Zulum, sustained cooperation between government authorities, security forces, and the public is vital in confronting the threat of terrorism.
A Call for Collective Strength
The governor concluded that the resurgence of attacks should encourage residents to stand together rather than allow fear or division to take hold.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant, maintain unity, and cooperate with security agencies in order to overcome the security challenges confronting the state.
Through faith, resilience, and cooperation, Zulum expressed optimism that peace and stability can ultimately be restored across Borno and Nigeria as a whole.
