Nigerian singer Sean Tizzle has emotionally honored the memory of his late mentor and music industry icon, Sound Sultan, who passed away in July 2021 after a battle with cancer.
Tizzle admitted that it took him several years to gather the courage and clarity to publicly honor Sound Sultan, confessing that he had struggled to find the right words that could truly express his appreciation. “I was afraid the words wouldn’t be enough,” he wrote.
Recounting his early career, the “Sho Le” hitmaker recalled how Sound Sultan saw his potential long before he became known in the entertainment scene. According to Tizzle, Sultan recognized his talent at a time when the world hadn’t yet taken notice, and chose to invest in him — not just musically, but personally.
Expressing his deep remorse, Sean Tizzle shared that he wished he had spoken these words to Sound Sultan directly, had embraced him tighter, and had expressed his gratitude in person. His heartfelt message concluded:
“I wish I had said this earlier, to your face. I wish I had hugged you tighter. But now, I say it to the world: Thank you, Sound Sultan. I am because you were. I carry your spirit with me always.”
The music community continues to mourn the loss of Sound Sultan, a figure who not only shaped the sounds of a generation but also touched lives with his kindness and wisdom.
