A 35‑year‑old woman from Orlando, Florida, has been formally charged with attempted murder following an incident in which shots were fired at the Los Angeles home of global music icon Rihanna late last weekend, authorities confirmed.
According to prosecutors, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz allegedly discharged a semiautomatic rifle toward the singer’s property at approximately 1:15 p.m. local time (9:15 p.m. GMT) on Sunday. Remarkably, no injuries were reported from the barrage of gunfire.
Ortiz is currently being detained with bail set at $1,875,000, and she could face a possible life sentence if convicted of the charges she now faces.
Law enforcement continues to investigate Ortiz’s motive for targeting the residence. The shooting occurred while Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, were present at the property, according to reporting by CBS News.
The Shooting and Arrest
Los Angeles police allege that Ortiz arrived at Rihanna’s mansion in a white Tesla, drove up to the front of the estate, and fired multiple rounds at the building before fleeing the scene.
Officers later located the vehicle roughly eight miles (12 km) away at the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping center. Ortiz was taken into custody at that location without further incident.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman publicly condemned the actions, emphasizing the danger posed by opening fire in a residential neighborhood.
Prosecutors also noted that not only were people inside Rihanna’s residence at the time of the shooting, but individuals were present in the neighboring property as well. Hochman reiterated the legal consequences for such recklessness:
“Violence of this nature won’t be tolerated in our community. Those responsible will find themselves behind bars,” he added.
Criminal Charges and Social Media Clues
In addition to attempted murder, Ortiz has been charged with ten felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an occupied dwelling.
Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department reportedly uncovered a series of social media posts from Ortiz that referenced Rihanna. One message on the platform X appeared to address the singer directly: “Are you there? … say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I’m not at.”
Aftermath and Background
Video footage captured outside the singer’s home the day following the shooting shows suitcases being transported away from the property, though authorities have not confirmed the purpose of this activity.
Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in Barbados, the multi‑platinum artist rose to global fame in the early 2000s with chart‑topping songs such as Pon de Replay and Umbrella.
Rihanna shares three children with partner A$AP Rocky. In a separate legal matter last year, Rocky was acquitted in a trial related to an alleged firing of a firearm at a former friend. During that proceeding, Rihanna brought their two sons to the courtroom.
