Wike: Young People Who Disapprove of Taxi Driving in Nigeria Accept It Abroad

According to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), cab driving is a respectable way to earn a living and ought to be encouraged.

Wike made this statement on Thursday when he gave beneficiaries some new automobiles to operate as taxis at the FCT Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment Program in Abuja.

“They’re not making any payments. No, according to the government, this is our way of helping you provide for your family and lowering the cost of city transportation. The minister stated that Abuja ought to compete with other cities worldwide.

He urged the recipients to not feel embarrassed about their newfound ability to drive taxis, pointing out that many Nigerians who would otherwise turn down domestic taxi driving employment gladly accept such as when they go overseas.

You’ll notice on social media that he wants them to work as cab drivers. According to the former governor of Rivers State, “we travel and see Nigerians who stay abroad and work as taxi drivers.”

The Nigerians back home will claim, “Our uncle is in London, my uncle is in Houston, my uncle is in Paris, and my uncle has sent us $200. However, the uncle overseas earns his living by driving a taxi, providing for his family, and paying taxes.”

The next thing we’ll see on social media is that they’re hiring them to drive cabs, rather than teaching us how to provide for our families.

“We prefer taxi driving in, but we can’t be taxi drivers here.” London. That’s the nation you’re in.

The minister stated that starting in January 2025, any commercial bus that has not been properly profiled by security authorities would not be permitted to run within the nation’s capital in an effort to reduce kidnapping and instances of “one-chance” robbery.

The majority of motorcyclists and Keke Napep are informants, according to Wike. The security is profiling all of the beneficiaries present.

According to our proposal, starting in January of next year, no one will be allowed to drive a bus or cab without permission from security, after which they will profile you and not wear the Abuja color.

“There’s nothing like driving a car. No, that will not be permitted. We will not permit that as of January.

“In order to give everyone the assurance that this is the vehicle I’m entering in the event of an emergency, we will take the vehicle number, the drivers’ names, and the rest.”
