The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is on the verge of a transportation reform as Minister Nyesom Wike confirmed that illegal car parks in Abuja will soon be eradicated. This announcement was made during a recent media interaction in the capital city.
Wike, who is also the former governor of Rivers State, emphasized the importance of structured public transport systems in urban planning, stating that the menace of unauthorized motor parks in Abuja will be resolved once the ongoing bus terminal projects are completed.
Three Major Bus Terminals Nearing Completion
Speaking to journalists on Friday, Wike stated:
“By the grace of God, we are almost done with the three bus terminals. We will be able to say this is where you will load, and this is the dropping point. Then we will now be able to reduce these illegal car parks.”
These FCT bus and taxi terminal projects, initiated under his administration, are part of a broader initiative to regulate transportation, streamline vehicle movement, and enhance the overall urban experience for residents and commuters in Abuja.
The Minister had previously disclosed that two of the three terminals would be operational by January 2025.
New Traffic Regulations to Follow
Once the bus terminals become functional, the FCT Administration will begin full enforcement of traffic and parking regulations, making it easier to manage vehicle movement and reduce congestion in the city.
This move aligns with international standards for urban transportation systems and will encourage the use of designated drop-off and pick-up locations — a key part of the FCT’s developmental vision.
