Renowned Nollywood actress Kemisola Apesin, popularly known in the Yoruba movie industry as Kemity or Sidi, has bravely opened up about the deeply personal story behind having two children with different fathers — a narrative that has drawn online criticism and harsh judgment over the years.
Speaking in a candid session on the Talk to B Podcast hosted by actress Biola Bayo, Kemity responded to trolls who continually bash her for being a mother to children from two different men. She offered an honest explanation, revealing that her life’s journey, filled with pain and unexpected tragedy, played a major role in shaping the circumstances that led to this reality.
Kemity explained that she became pregnant as a teenager during her secondary school days. At the time, she was preparing to sit for her Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) when the pregnancy occurred. Her mother, recognizing the importance of education, strongly insisted that she must complete her schooling rather than being rushed into marriage because of the pregnancy.
“I was about to write my SSCE when I got pregnant. My mother told me that I had to finish my education before anything else — including marrying the man who got me pregnant,” she recounted.
Unfortunately, life took an even darker turn. Kemity disclosed that the father of her first child was later murdered in a hotel in Nigeria, shortly after he returned from Malaysia. He had come back into the country secretly, without informing her or anyone close to him. She shared the heartbreaking moment when she was notified of his death and how he was found with only $300 on him at the time — leading to suspicions that he may have been robbed and killed for the money he returned with.
Kemity clarified that it was never her desire to end up with two children from different men. She emphasized that much of what happened was beyond her control, and public trolls lack the full context behind her decisions and circumstances.
The actress went on to explain how she later met the father of her second child during a period when she was undergoing computer training. Their relationship eventually led to a court marriage, and soon after, she became pregnant again. However, the relationship began to deteriorate due to issues surrounding infidelity. According to Kemity, her husband was involved in extra-marital affairs, which caused persistent misunderstandings between them.
The final straw, she revealed, came when her husband claimed that his Alfa (spiritual adviser) told him that he would never succeed in life unless he separated from her.
Despite the criticism she receives online, Kemity remains grounded in her truth. Her story is one of survival, difficult choices, and unplanned tragedies — not one of irresponsibility or poor values as many trolls assume. Her account sheds light on the complexities of relationships, societal expectations, and the pain women often bear in silence.
