We’re on Recess – Oyo APC Lawmaker Denies Involvement in Makinde’s ₦300bn Loan Approval

A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ibraheem Shittu, has openly distanced himself from the approval of Governor Seyi Makinde’s controversial ₦300 billion loan request, insisting that he was not part of the decision-making process.

Shittu, who represents the Saki West State Constituency, disclosed this in an official statement shared on his verified Facebook page. His declaration came amid growing debates over the legitimacy and necessity of the huge loan facility sought by the Oyo State Government.

According to the lawmaker, the House of Assembly is currently on a six-week recess, which officially started on July 31st and is expected to end on September 16th, 2025. Despite this, he alleged that an emergency sitting was hurriedly arranged where certain lawmakers approved the loan without informing all members of the House.

In his words, Shittu emphasized:

“For the record, I, Hon. Ibraheem Shittu, representing Saki West State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, was not among the lawmakers who endorsed a ₦300 billion loan on August 19th, 2025, which was later formalized on August 26th, 2025, during our official six-week recess. The House is on break, but an emergency plenary was convened without proper communication to all members, solely to approve this loan.”

The opposition lawmaker further questioned the rationale behind the borrowing, stressing that Oyo State already enjoys a significant boost in federal allocation (FAAC), which has reportedly risen by over 500% compared to previous years.

Shittu queried:

• Why should Oyo State take on such a massive debt at this critical time?
• Why was the loan classified as an emergency matter?
• Why were all elected representatives not properly carried along before the decision was finalized?

He concluded his statement with a sharp reminder to citizens:
