The United States has conveyed its openness to collaborate with Canada’s newly elected Prime Minister, Mark Carney, emphasizing the need to boost manufacturing across North America.
During an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer highlighted Washington’s interest in deepening economic integration with its northern neighbor under the new leadership.
“The new prime minister is a serious individual. We believe more manufacturing should happen within North America—within our own hemisphere,” Greer stated.
He further mentioned that while the core of such diplomatic ties hinges on leadership dialogue between the U.S. president and Canada’s prime minister, the United States remains prepared to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Recent diplomatic engagements between the two nations have faced challenges, particularly since President Donald Trump returned to office on January 20. His controversial remark suggesting Canada could potentially become the 51st U.S. state stirred debate across both nations.
Despite Trump’s proposition, Canadians opted for sovereignty and democratic leadership by electing Mark Carney, a member of the Liberal Party, as their new prime minister.
