Ukraine’s President Denies Russian Conditions in Ceasefire Deal
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed certain conditions presented by Russia during ceasefire negotiations, stating that they were not originally part of the meeting agenda.
Ceasefire Agreement in the Black Sea
On Tuesday, the United States announced that Russia and Ukraine had reached an understanding to “eliminate the use of force” in the Black Sea following diplomatic discussions held in Saudi Arabia. However, Russia later asserted that a maritime ceasefire would only take effect if it received relief from economic sanctions affecting its agricultural exports.
According to Russia’s official documents, the conditions outlined include U.S. assistance in restoring Russia’s access to global agricultural markets, reducing maritime insurance costs, and improving access to international ports and payment networks for agricultural and fertilizer exports.
Zelenskyy Rejects Russia’s Demands
Former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States was reviewing Russia’s conditions. However, Zelenskyy firmly stated that these demands were not part of the agreed discussions.
“This wasn’t in the agenda before the meeting,” Zelenskyy said on Tuesday. “The Russians, as far as we know, have raised the issue of American assistance in transporting their agricultural products. We didn’t agree to that being included in our official statement.”
Despite rejecting Russia’s additional demands, Zelenskyy maintained a diplomatic stance, emphasizing that Ukraine now has a formal avenue to appeal to the White House if Russia violates the ceasefire agreement in the near future.
