US Embassy Introduces New Visa Process For Nigerian Applicants

The United States Embassy has announced a new requirement for Nigerian visa applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025. These applicants must make at least two visits to the Consulate General in Lagos as part of the immigrant visa process.

This new procedure was shared via a post on the embassy’s X (formerly Twitter) account. The announcement reads: “For applicants with interviews after January 1, 2025, you must visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during your immigrant visa process.”

The embassy explained that the goal of this change is to ensure applicants are properly prepared for their visa interviews, which will help reduce delays in the processing of their immigrant visas.

The first visit involves an “In-Person Document Review” with a consular officer. This review ensures applicants are fully prepared and gives them an opportunity to gather any missing documents before their interview, preventing delays.

The second visit will be an interview with a Consular Officer. This appointment will be scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC). If applicants fail to complete the In-Person Document Review before their interview, they will need to reschedule their appointment.

These changes are being introduced to enhance the efficiency of the visa process and reduce delays caused by incomplete documentation.
