UNILAG and Casting Crown Partner to Enhance Sustainability and Project Management Skills in Students

22 / 100 SEO Score

In a bid to equip Nigerian students with industry-ready skills, Casting Crown, a leading firm in professional development, has launched a transformative initiative aimed at empowering 10,000 students across 20 universities in Nigeria over the next five years.

Bridging the Skills Gap with Globally Recognized Certifications

This initiative is structured around the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) EDGE Program, a globally renowned certification that fosters expertise in sustainability, project management, and Building Information Modelling (BIM) software.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has been selected as the pioneer institution for the program, with plans to expand to 19 other universities nationwide. The initiative aims to certify at least 100 students per university annually, targeting a total of 2,000 certifications each year.

Empowering Students with Market-Ready Skills

Dr. Gbolahan Oyelakin, the program coordinator, highlighted the critical skills gap in the Nigerian job market, noting that many young professionals lack expertise in sustainability, project management, and BIM software. This gap, he emphasized, hinders project efficiency and efforts to combat climate change.

Speaking at UNILAG’s Faculty of Engineering, Oyelakin underscored the importance of early training, stating that by integrating technical skills into the university curriculum, students will graduate with job-ready competencies, making them highly competitive in the global workforce.

He further advocated for government collaboration to overhaul Nigeria’s education system and ensure graduates are equipped with modern, industry-relevant skills.

UNILAG Endorses the Initiative

Prof. Samson Adeosun, Dean of UNILAG’s Faculty of Engineering, commended the collaboration, emphasizing that it aligns with the university’s goal of producing globally competitive graduates. He added that the training would prepare students for globally recognized certification exams, enhancing their career prospects in international markets.
