On Friday, Steve Witkoff, the special envoy from US President Donald Trump, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. This meeting comes at a critical juncture in the ongoing diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the war in Ukraine, a mission Trump has labeled as pivotal.
According to LMSINT Media, Witkoff has become a central figure in the US’s communication with Putin, playing a key role in Washington’s push for a peace agreement. He has already participated in several lengthy discussions with the Russian leader, demonstrating his importance in the peace process.
Accompanying President Putin during the meeting were Yuri Ushakov, his foreign policy adviser, and Kirill Dmitriev, a key envoy for Russian investment.
This diplomatic visit follows Trump’s criticism of a recent Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv that resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals. Trump voiced his condemnation on social media, urging Putin to halt these attacks with a direct message: “Vladimir, STOP!”
Despite his strong criticism, Trump expressed optimism about the ongoing peace talks, noting that substantial progress had been made. “These next few days are going to be very important. Meetings are taking place right now. I think we’re going to make a deal. I think we’re getting very close,” he stated.
