Trump Unveils What Zelenskyy Told Him During Vatican Meeting

United States President Donald Trump has unveiled new insights into his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which occurred during the burial ceremony of Pope Francis at the Vatican last Friday.

According to Trump, Zelenskyy pressed for additional military assistance from the United States to bolster Ukraine’s defenses amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. Speaking to the media on Sunday, Trump expressed empathy for the Ukrainian leader, acknowledging that Zelenskyy is “striving to do the right thing for his nation” and “putting in tremendous effort.”

Photos from the Vatican meeting captured both leaders engaged in serious conversation, with Trump later reflecting on their discussions about the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump shared his disappointment over Russia’s missile attacks on Ukraine despite prior diplomatic negotiations involving Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump’s peace envoy, Steve Witkoff.

“I was genuinely disappointed to see missiles raining down from Russia,” Trump stated.

Despite Zelenskyy’s appeal for more arms, Trump appeared reluctant to make further commitments. While speaking to reporters at a New Jersey airport, Trump said, “Zelenskyy told me again that he needs more weapons — but honestly, he’s been repeating that request for over three years.”

Trump reiterated his vision for peace between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing, “I want Putin to stop the attacks, sit down, and finalize the agreement. We have a draft framework already. It’s time for him to sign and end the bloodshed.”

When asked whether he trusts Putin, Trump responded cautiously, “Give me about two weeks — or less — to determine that. But they are losing thousands weekly.”

On his relationship with President Zelenskyy, Trump maintained that their bond remains intact, despite minor disagreements in the past. “We had a small dispute during a public event, but it was no big issue. I respect the situation he’s in — facing a massive adversary. He seems more composed now, and I believe he truly wants to broker peace.”

The situation in Eastern Europe remains tense as both sides grapple with immense human and material losses. Efforts to broker a sustainable peace deal continue, with international observers hoping for a breakthrough soon.
