The United States military launched precision airstrikes on Islamic State (ISIS) targets in Somalia on Saturday, as announced by former US President Donald Trump.
US Military Conducts Airstrikes on ISIS in Somalia
In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump confirmed that he had ordered targeted strikes against senior ISIS leaders and their recruits in Somalia.
“This morning, I directed precision military airstrikes on the Senior ISIS Attack Planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia,” Trump wrote.
Targeted Strikes in Puntland Region
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosed that the military operation specifically targeted ISIS operatives in the Golis Mountains, a remote area in the Puntland region known for militant activity.
“Our initial assessment confirms that multiple operatives were eliminated, and no civilian casualties were reported,” Hegseth stated.
Impact on ISIS Operations in Somalia
Hegseth emphasized that the operation was a strategic move to weaken ISIS’s ability to coordinate attacks against the US, its allies, and innocent civilians.
“This action significantly reduces ISIS’s capacity to plan and execute terrorist attacks. It reinforces our commitment to protecting US citizens and sending a strong message to terrorist groups worldwide.”

While ISIS has a smaller footprint in Somalia compared to the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab, security analysts have raised concerns about its expanding influence in the region.
Trump concluded his statement with a firm warning to ISIS and other terrorist organizations:
“The message to ISIS and all others who threaten Americans is clear—WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!”
