White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump’s sentiments, jokingly stating:
“We look forward to the United States beating our soon-to-be 51st state.”
While his comments carried a sharp political edge, Trump did attempt to soften the rhetoric by offering a sportsmanlike message:
“Good luck to both teams. Let’s have a GREAT game tonight. So exciting!”
