Former U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly expressed gratitude to El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele, for taking in criminals expelled from the United States. In a post on Truth Social, Trump also criticized former President Joe Biden’s administration for its handling of illegal immigration.
Trump’s Praise for Bukele and Criticism of Biden Trump acknowledged Bukele’s cooperation in receiving criminals deported from the U.S., while sharply condemning the policies of the Biden administration, which he claimed allowed dangerous individuals to enter the country.
“Thank you, President Bukele, of El Salvador, for taking the criminals that were so stupidly allowed, by the Crooked Joe Biden Administration, to enter our Country, and giving them such a wonderful place to live!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Recent Deportation of Tren de Aragua and MS-13 Members The statement follows a recent operation in which the United States deported 17 criminals affiliated with the violent gangs Tren de Aragua and MS-13 to El Salvador’s high-security prison, Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT). The transfer, carried out by the U.S. military on Sunday night, included individuals accused of severe crimes such as murder and sexual assault.
This operation is part of an ongoing security agreement between both nations. Earlier in March, approximately 238 members of Tren de Aragua were also transferred to El Salvador as part of the crackdown on transnational criminal organizations.
U.S.-El Salvador Cooperation on Security El Salvador has been recognized for its strict policies on crime, particularly under President Bukele’s administration, which has been praised for its firm stance against gang violence. The country’s strategy aligns with U.S. efforts to curb criminal activities linked to transnational gangs.
